Recent Instagram Photos...

Happy New Year's Eve, everyone! Sorry for the lack of blog posts this week… I took a little post-Christmas break and have been traveling for the past couple days. Here are a few snaps of my recent outfits from Instagram lately… enjoy :)

Tonight I am headed to uptown Charlotte for the Southern Skyline Grand Ball. I can't wait… I love getting dressed up in sequins and sparkles for NYE!

On another note, I just want to say how thankful I am for you guys, for reading my blog in 2014. It has truly been an amazing year, perhaps the best of my life, and I couldn't have done it without you. Thank you for your support! I am excited to see what 2015 brings… :)

I hope everyone had a wonderful, wonderful Christmas! My family had a great one. We always start the day off with cinnamon rolls and mimosas, then open our stocking and presents. Afterward we lounge around and watch movies… and my grandparents always come over for a huge Christmas dinner at night. It's always fun to stay in your PJ's all day and not have a care in the world!

On to the outfit… remember earlier this week when I was bragging about these sweaters that are the comfiest, softest sweaters in the world? This grey one came in a few days ago and I'm in love! You can't even understand how soft it is until you put it on, haha. For this look I kept it really casual with a beanie, booties and my new favorite scarf (which is on sale right now!).

How To Tie A Blanket Scarf

How to tie a blanket scarf

First of all, Merry Christmas Eve! Second, I apologize because these aren't the best photos ever (I literally had my brother snap them outside my garage a few days ago) but true life: this is how I tie my blanket scarf! I love wearing this scarf because for one, it really is a blanket, and who doesn't want to be wrapped up cozy in a blanket all day?!

How to tie a blanket scarf
similar plaid blanket scarf (only $12 and it's currently buy one get one free!)

Blanket Scarf Tutorial:
1. Start out with the scarf completely unfolded (picture one).
2. Taking two opposite sides, fold it in half to create a triangle (picture two).
3. Wrap the scarf around your neck with the point facing down. Pull the ends to tighten the scarf around your neck (picture three).
4. Tuck in the ends of the scarf so that they aren't visible (picture four). You may have to mess with it and arrange the scarf until your desired look is achieved!

I will say that this method works best with a SQUARE blanket scarf as opposed to a rectangular one, because I start out by folding the square from corner to corner so that it creates a triangle. However, this look is still possible to achieve with a rectangular scarf, you just have to drape it so that it looks like triangle (it's very hard to explain, but it is possible haha!).

Merry Christmas Eve to you all! I am finishing up making some Oreo balls this morning and then headed to my grandparents' house this afternoon to spend the evening with my family, aunt and uncle and cousins. We eat hors d'oeuvres and lots of sweets, drink my papa's apple cider and exchange family presents… it's one of my favorite Christmas Eve traditions! What are y'all doing tonight?

8 Easy Ways to Amp Up Your Holiday Look

With Christmas Eve being tomorrow (gasp!), I've put together a few easy ways to take your holiday look to the next level (does anyone else dress up for Christmas Eve?!). Most of these are cheap and can be done last-minute, but they make a huge difference!

1. Put a bow on it
Tying a bow onto a blouse is a really easy, no-fuss way to transform an outfit. I own this tie-on bow from NastyGal, but a regular ribbon or a sash from the craft store will have the same effect (you can even buy a yard of black fabric and cut your own). Don't be afraid to get creative, too… I added a bow to a plaid shirt (below) for a really festive look. I also love this bow headband for your hair!

2. Highlight your eyes
This is a super easy way to add some glam to your usual makeup routine… Apply a white eye highlighter pencil to the inner corners of your eyes for an instant lifting and brightening effect. I own this eye highlighter by Jane Iredale and use it whenever I want to add an extra "oomph" to my makeup. This one is particularly great because it has a white shimmer side and a pink shimmer side… I use the white in the winter and the pink when I have a tan during the summer! It really does make your eyes pop.

3. Rock a Red Lip
My favorite way to instantaneously turn a look into a "festive" one is to add a red lip. I live and die by bareMinerals "call the shots" - it's the color I have on in the above photo and my go-to red lip color! I don't even own any other red lip colors because this one is perfect. One tip for great-looking lipstick: apply lip balm with a Q-tip approximately 30 minutes before applying your lipstick. The Q-tip acts as an exfoliator to slough off dead skin, therefore making your lips smooth and moisturized before you put on your lippy color!

4. Add fun tights
A simple black dress can look completely different with a pair of fun printed tights. I love, love, love the gigantic polka dots on this pair

5. Paint your Nails
Not only is painting your nails an instant mood lifter, but it can also add some holiday cheer to your outfits. My go-to nail polish this season has been Essie's "double breasted jacket" because it is the PERFECT Christmas-y red color. To take things up a notch, I love to add glitter polish to a manicure. You can do one "party nail" (paint your fourth fingernail with a glitter polish) or get really creative and add glitter to them all. I'm loving this nail look for New Year's Eve!

6. Try Falsies
I save false lashes for really special occasions if I want to look my absolute best (like NYE!). They can give your eyes a bold, dramatic look without any makeup at all. I really like these because they are simple and natural-looking when they're on. They also make glitter lashes and a bunch of fun holiday sets at the drugstore.

7. Curl Your Hair
Curling your hair is a simple thing that can instantly dress up your look. I love big, bouncy curls for Christmas-time! I use the ISO Beauty 25 mm curling wand to curl my hair and I'm a teeny bit obsessed with it. It's the only curling wand I've ever used or owned, but I'm not even tempted to try out another one. It's amazing (and a really good price too)!

8. Add Some Bling
Whether it's a blingy necklace or a bedazzled sweater, I love the glamour that just a hint of sparkle can add to an outfit. You can easily dress up a simple outfit with some fabulous earrings or a statement necklace.

What are your favorite ways to glam up a holiday outfit? I'd love to hear! And Merry Christmas Eve's Eve!

Pop of Pink...

Winter look… cute beanie!
Camel tones with a pop of pink

Love this beanie with the pink pom pom!
Winter outfit idea
pom pom beanie (only $10!!!) // similar camel sweater, another similar style here
pink gloves // distressed denim (just ordered this pair!) // similar suede tassel booties
MAC lipstick in "pink nouveau" // pearl earrings

Funny story, I was at my mom's house over the weekend and it was freezing out… and she said, "Well I bought you something for Christmas but I'm excited about it so I want to give it to you now!" and it ended up being this pink pom pom beanie! She knows me too well… I love the pink pom pom so I ended up wearing it this entire weekend haha. It was especially perfect for the dreary weekend we had.. sometimes a pop of color can really brighten your mood. I kept this particular look pretty simple with the camel tones and a pink lip.

Oh and just FYI… one of my absolute favorite sweaters that I wear at least two to three times a week (because it is THAT comfortable) just came out in seven more colors. I ordered two more colors last night! I own it in black already and it's seriously so soft and comfortable (I am wearing it in this blog post... size small). It's the perfect piece for layering because it's lightweight, so you can wear a turtleneck underneath, with a big cardigan or coat on top, or underneath a fur vest (my favorite way). It is completely worth it!

I hope everyone had a great weekend! Mine was a little crazy as our family tries to prepare for Christmas… can you believe it's only THREE DAYS away!!? I have most of my shopping done but I still need to wrap some things. I'm also making a dessert for our Christmas Eve party and am at a loss of what to make! I'd love suggestions for something easy!

Instagram Roundup

Happy Friday!! I haven't done an Instagram roundup in a while, so I figured it was the perfect way to kick off the weekend. Enjoy!

This is one of my favorite combinations… stripes and plaid plus the cutest monogrammed mug!

I actually wore this outfit yesterday during the day… I love the Hunter boots but I changed into booties for a date night with my boyfriend last night. It's the perfect classic outfit… although I'm sad that the herringbone vest is sold out!

white cowl neck sweater // J.Crew vest (sold out in herringbone) // distressed jeans

This was another outfit I wore this week. My grey sweater is a little bit cropped so I wore it over a lace top I bought over the summer… I love the effect with the lace peeking out underneath! I paired it with over the knee boots and dark wash denim to complete the look.

grey sweater (less than $30!) // similar lace shirt layered underneath // dark wash denim

One of my favorite combinations that y'all have seen me wear a lot this fall is a plaid flannel paired with a puffer vest and riding boots. You seriously can't go wrong with this combination!

So… I seriously want to live in this grey cowl neck sweater. I put it on for the second time around my boyfriend and he goes, "You are wearing that again?!" But you don't even understand. It's so comfortable! And it goes with jeans or black pants (and even a vest!) so you can switch up the look.

I love wrapping presents. Seriously, I LOVE it. In my family we turn it into a big affair, play Christmas music and drink peppermint coffee or hot cocoa. It's one of my favorite parts of the Christmas season!

As I was just saying, I do love Christmas… even enough to wear a Christmas sweater out in public. Although this one is super cute!

A plaid flannel, a little bling and my favorite fur vest… you seriously can't go wrong!

I loved this outfit for several reasons… it was really comfortable, but I also love the touches of gold! I got this gold Tory Burch crossbody bag for the holiday season and it looks great with dressy holiday outfits.

This photo was taken at the mall while I was shopping for presents… I definitely got some looks while trying to take this photo with my iPhone!

Sugar cookie day… (get the whole recipe here!)

And finally, another comfy cowl neck sweater. I've been living in cowl necks lately!

I hope everyone has a great Friday! I hope today goes by quickly because Chris and I are spending the evening with my parents and brother. We are headed to Olive Garden for dinner (I literally can't wait… the bread sticks make my life!) and then we are watching Christmas movies at my parents' house. The rest of this weekend I plan on finishing up some last minute present shopping! What are your plans this weekend?
