Neon Skort

I'm pretty sure I haven't worn a skort since the fifth grade… and only because they were apart of our school uniforms! However, this skort is NOTHING like my middle school uniform. Haha! I am obsessed with the neon orange color (it also comes in white!) and although it looks bright in the photos, it is definitely more neon in person. I love it paired with this white embellished tank because the orange color matches the beads perfectly. For the handbag, I chose a striped crossbody bag for an unexpected "pop" of pattern. It would be the perfect outfit for a night out on the town or a hot date!

I'm super, super excited that this week is such a short week! I'm leaving Thursday to spend the weekend in Charleston and celebrate July 4th on the beach. I've already started planning my outfits and packing… all centered around red, white and blue. So cheers to a great Monday and a short work week!

Summer Reading

Summer is one of my favorite seasons for reading. I have always been a bookworm, burying my nose in fairy tales and fiction, getting lost in story lines and falling in love with characters, but there's something about the summertime that makes reading even more enjoyable. There's nothing more relaxing than reading on the beach or by the pool… but I also love reading a few chapters before bed each night. I've rounded up a few of the books I've been reading lately, so I hope you'll enjoy them as much as I did!

1. With This Heart by R.S. Grey

With This Heart is a quintessential summer read. The main character, Abby, receives a second chance at life after undergoing a heart transplant and spending several years in the hospital. She plans a two week road trip (alone), when she unexpectedly meets a boy who wants to join her on the trip and ends up changing her life. Abby and Beck depart on the road trip as perfect strangers but fall in love throughout their epic journey, everything you think a summer road trip should be (bonfires by the beach, sleeping in teepees, getting caught in the rain, etc).

Some parts of the book seem too-good-to-be-true (I mean, what girl goes on a road trip with a perfect stranger and he turns out to be intelligent, sexy and the love of your life?) but it provided an evocative look at what a person goes through after beating a life threatening illness. Sometimes the book was very thoughtful and serious, while other parts were hilarious and had me laughing out loud (especially at Abby and Beck's witty banter!). Before anyone reads the book, though, they should be prepared for the sex scenes. The book was sexually explicit and sometimes made me feel uncomfortable… for that reason, I wouldn't recommend the book to anyone under the age of 17!

You can download With This Heart on Amazon for $2.99 here (or check out my giveaway at the end of this post!).

2. Vampire Academy Series by Richelle Mead

If you liked the Twilight series, you will love the Vampire Academy series - possibly even more! I picked up the first book on a whim because I was stuck in an airport for a few hours by myself. It took me at least 100 pages to understand the vampire society that the main character, Rose, lives in, but after that I was hooked. There are five books in the series and each one was better than the last - I couldn't read them fast enough. The protagonist, Rose, is perhaps my favorite character out of all the books I've ever read! She is tough, quick-tempered, but extremely clever with a great sense of humor. And Dimitri - oh Dimitri! - you will fall in love with him, too. The series is very consistent and there are so many plot twists and action scenes that it continuously keeps you on your toes. This is the type of book that has you thinking about it even when you are not reading it. I would highly recommend the series to anyone who is even slightly interested in science fiction/romance!

3. Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier

Rebecca is a timeless classic - and also my all-time favorite book. I have re-read it several times and it never gets old! Daphne du Maurier weaves together mystery, secrets and romance into an intricate novel, one that will leave chills down your spine. The plot goes a little like this: a young girl is swept off her feet by an older, handsome man and taken to live with him to a beautiful mansion (called Manderley). As she adjusts to married life, she learns that her new husband was once married to a woman named Rebecca… whose ghost now haunts Manderley. Rebecca is one of the most beautifully written books I've ever read, but it is also a little dark (so be warned). It's definitely not a light read, and it is a classic that was written many years ago so some of the language is antiquated. However, it is definitely my favorite book of all time and I promise you will get lost in it too!

Since I love summer reading so much, today I am giving away five e-books and two signed copies of the novel With This Heart (review above). This is seriously the perfect book to bring with you on vacation or read by the pool and you will love it just as much as I did! Even if you don't win, it's only $2.99 on Amazon ;) You can enter the giveaway using the Rafflecopter widget below.

Good luck!! And if you have any recommendations for summer reads, I'd love to hear them in the comments below!

Palm Trees...

MIA gem wedges via Nordstrom Rack // The Bling Bling crystal flower bracelet
Kate Spade watch // YSL lipstick #6 "pink in devotion" // Essie nail polish in "mint candy apple"

Palm print is really "on trend" right now (I think it all started with this palm print bikini from Target that everyone has been snatching up!). Anyways, when I saw this Nordstrom dress I knew I had to have it - I fell in love with the bold print and the tropical feel of this dress. Plus it's made of a light material and has a slit in the back so it's perfect for the hot, humid summer days we've been experiencing lately in N.C. Other palm print favorites include this romper and this statement skirt (how perfect would it be with a crop top!).

On another note, please go buy this crystal flower bracelet from Etsy. I can't stop wearing it.

I'm headed to Greenville, S.C. today to visit my friend Megan! We are going to have a girls' weekend and drink lots of wine, eat lots of good food, etc. Ah. Girls' weekends are seriously the best!!!

Design Darling Giveaway

Like the rest of America, I am completely smitten with Design Darling the boutique. Scallops, stripes and lots of blue and white patterns make up Mackenzie Horan's offering of home decor in her shop… and I couldn't be more in love!

Let's talk about some of my favorites in the above photos from my home. This moroccan blue tray looks equally as beautiful on a bar cart as it does on my desk (and it's less than $40!!). You could also put it in the kitchen as a catch-all for your mail or keys! I'm also swooning over this blue and white candle - it has a really clean, fresh scent and looks beautiful sitting on a nightstand or desk. And because you all know I love monograms, of course I am obsessing over this monogrammed pencil cup… which could also be used as a vase or even a makeup brush holder.

And, now… drumroll please! Today, Mackenzie and I have teamed up to offer a $100 gift card to Design Darling! I am truly jealous of the winner of this giveaway… there are too many perfect items in her store. Good luck!!!

Pom Poms & Printed Pants

What's the next best thing to wearing pajama pants all day long? Wearing the cutest pants ever that FEEL like pajama pants all day long! Seriously, y'all. These printed tapered pants from Nordstrom are just about the most comfortable item of clothing I've ever put on my body. They're a really good fit, too (size up one size!) because they come down to the perfect length right above your ankles (just right for these ankle strap heels, which are on sale for less than $30 right now!!). I paired these pants with a white crop top - it's hard to tell from the pictures, but it has tiny pom poms lining the neck and sleeves. You could definitely wear a longer top with these pants, leave it tucked or untucked, or even just wear a plain white t-shirt for a more casual look. There are a billion ways to style it!

I have a really fun giveaway planned for tomorrow that I know y'all are going to LOVE. I can't wait to reveal it!!! Be sure to check back tomorrow :)

Colors of the Rainbow

Confession: I love going into a store and piecing together a full outfit that I love, from the jewelry all the way down to the shoes. This entire outfit (minus the clutch) was found at the Nordstrom Rack store in Charlotte. I was particularly excited about the Joe's Jeans denim shorts... I have been searching for a pair that aren't too short and these are the perfect length. The shoes are also to-die-for, but I can't find them anywhere online. The brand is MIA. And finally… that necklace! It has every color in the rainbow in it and I LOVE it. It's made by Spring Street Collection and my Nordstrom Rack had just gotten in a huge collection. Run. Now. ;)

For those of you that don't live close to a Nordstrom Rack, I have some exciting news… You can now shop Nordstrom Rack online! I love it because they offer the same quality, designer items as Nordstrom but at a much lower price. The website offers free shipping on orders over $100 and also offers flash sales every week on Monday and Thursday at 11 a.m. EST. Remember to use the hashtag #ShopGenius on Instagram and Twitter for a chance to be featured on their Instagram account!
