Summer Shaving Routine

Maybe it’s just me, but I swear my leg hair grows SO FAST in the summer! Like, what the heck?! I can get away with hairy legs in the winter (thanks, leggings) but in the summer I’m constantly in shorts and dresses, and I hate having hairy legs. Especially when I’m trying to sleep at night and I can feel them on my sheets (maybe I’m weird, but this bothers me so bad haha!). This entire spring and summer, I’ve been experimenting with a shaving routine and I FINALLY found one that works for me – I only shave a couple of times per week now and my leg hair stays manageable. It is a bit more of a process but it’s worth it to shave less often!

Step One: Exfoliate

The first step is applying Tree Hut’s Shave Prep Sugar Scrub at least once per week (for best results you can use it before every shave!). Tree Hut is FAMOUS for their scrubs and this one is specially made for shaving – it contains real sugar that scrubs away dead skin and lifts the hair on your legs to prepare them for a smooth, close shave. I usually put some on a washcloth and gently rub my legs in a circular motion before shaving. The best thing about this scrub is that it doesn’t dry out your skin – it has shea butter, safflower seed oil, macadamia seed oil and avocado oil – all of which moisturize and soften your skin.

Step Two: Shave Oil

For a long time I would use leftover shampoo or random body wash to shave my legs with… and I had no idea what I was missing out on! Tree Hut’s Moisturizing Shave Oil is a game-changer for shaving – it has a unique formula which provides enhanced contact between the razor and your skin for the closest shave possible. It’s also perfect for girls who are prone to razor bumps or ingrown hairs (which is, unfortunately, me!). Also – the Coconut Lime scent smells sooo good and feels amazing on your skin.

Step Three: Soothing Mist

Ok the next step (which is super easy): I mist my legs down with Tree Hut’s Post Shave Soothing Mist. I looove how this feels on your skin – it’s a slightly cooling sensation, almost like I can feel the Aloe, Vitamin B5, and Oat reducing inflammation and itchiness right away.

Step Four: Hair Minimizing Body Butter

Okay you guys, this last step is CRUCIAL if you want to shave less in the summer! I finish off my shaving routine with Tree Hut’s Hair Minimizing Body Butter – sounds kind of like voodoo magic right?! It’s not! This nourishing, rich body butter contains Gymnema Sylvestre, an ingredient known to reduce the speed of hair growth after 28 days of continued use. I actually keep it on my nightstand so I can apply it every night (you have to use it often to get the most benefit) but after a month of use, I can really tell a difference. It also smells *magical* and contains shea butter for ultimate moisture.

Just a little reminder that all of Tree Hut’s products contain organic shea and are free of parabens – just one of the many reasons I love them!

  1. Great post! Tree Hut products definitely sound amazing, I HAVE to go and check out that hair minimizing body butter like whaaat??!! Also, yes, it’s absolutely true, I used to shave with random body wash as well and it’s just not the same to use a foam or gel specifically made for shaving – life changer! And a shaving oil sounds heavenly!

Thank you for this post – Sally Hansen used to make a product like this one (to minimize hair growth) and I was disappointed when they discontinued it years ago so I’ll have to check this one out. Also, I just got those same cute pajamas yesterday!

One question – how do you schedule your self tanner use on balance with your shaving? Thanks for the tips!

    • Hey Keri! I usually apply self-tanner about once a week, and for that I would skip the spray and moisturizer after shaving and apply the tanner right away. I still exfoliate, though! 🙂

Hey Caitlin! These products look great!! do you still use the epilator?? I have eczema and don’t know if these would irritate my skin, but I’m with you I hate shaving – and HATE the feeling on my sheets if I don’t ! Ah, the perks of being a girl!

Hi! Just curious I searched on your blog and don’t find anything but How do you edit your photos ? They always look so crisp! Do you use your own presets or share the steps you take somewhere and I’m just missing it? Thanks! 😊

I have not been able to find the minimizing body butter online or in the stores right now. I would like to try all products together so will have to wait until products are all available.

  12. Hate to shave, I think this damaged long term the legs. So what about permanent laser removal? I think this is the best solution
