My Favorite Non-Toxic Beauty Products

Happy Monday you guys! As you all know, over the past couple of years I’ve been cleaning up my diet and eliminating processed foods, chemicals and toxins. Well, the same goes for my bathroom cabinets! Your skin is the largest organ in your body, and absorbs anywhere from about 21 to 100% of what you put on it. I’ve been making an extra effort to use products without harsh chemicals or toxins, and spent the last six months testing out a bunch of products! Surprisingly, I’ve found a bunch of amazing products that are affordable too, and the best part is that all of these are available at your nearest Walmart.
Here’s a list of my favorites!
This body wash smells HEAVENLY!!!! It’s a beautiful, feminine, rose-scented body wash that you will want to lather your whole body in. It doesn’t contain any sulfates or parabens and is infused with plant-based cleansers like organic coconut oil and handpicked Bulgarian rose. I actually look forward to showers so that I can use this stuff! In addition, every bottle is made from 100% recycled materials and are recyclable.
Made by the same brand, this body wash smells equally as great but has more of an earthy scent! It’s infused with organic coconut oil, natural tea tree oil and vetiver, ethically sources from Haiti.
This sugar scrub smells SO GOOD – whenever I even take the top off of it, my entire bathroom immediately smells like it. I use this scrub in the tub or shower with a wash cloth every time before I go for a spray tan to exfoliate and get rid of dead skin cells. It contains organ oil from Morocco to ease inflammation and organic shea butter for moisture. Plus y’all – the SMELL. I feel like I’m in a spa when I use this!
Can you believe it – I’ve actually switched over from my Chanel lip balm to this one! I love the scent of cherry, and this organic lip balm is infused with organic olive and coconut oils to moisturize and organic shea butter to protect against drying. Unlike other lip balms that always leave your lips wanting more, I can apply this once and my lips don’t feel dry after a few hours. It’s free of parabens, harsh preservatives, synthetic colors or fragrances, phthalates or harmful sulfates, and they don’t test on animals.
I use these towelettes on my face in the morning or on my body after a workout at the gym if I don’t have time to take a shower. They gently exfoliate your skin while removing dirt, oil and makeup and are 99.1% natural.
I have been trying to find a natural deodorant for a long time now – especially since a few scientific studies have linked deodorant to breast cancer! This one by Tom’s smells like lavender and is completely natural, without any aluminum. In my honest opinion I don’t think it works quite as well as a normal deodorant, but I use it because I love that it’s all natural!
Made with pure, natural ingredients and zero alcohol, this probably doesn’t taste like your usual mouthwash. It’s not quite as minty, however I do use this is in the mornings to keep my breath fresh – it is clinically proven to last more than 12 hours!

  1. Oooh! The Tom's Long Lasting Deodorant in Wild Lavender looks fabulous 🙂 It's so hard to find non toxic deodorants and beauty products for that matter. One of my favorite brands is Herbivore Botanical? Have you tried/heard of it dear 🙂

  7. I would recommend these home studios NYC to anyone who is looking for a great spot or place to go and attend an event while eating and trying lesser known things. Prices are very reasonable and the staff is great!

  8. Hi! I would definitely do some research, Tom's deodorant still has toxic ingredients in it and Burt's Bees is owned by Clorox family company. There are much cleaner products on the market. Websites that have helped me understand what is really in products and from ladies whose job it is to research and really understand everything: Amanda at theorganicbunny.com, Carrie at deliciouslyorganic.net, Vani at foodbabe.com, and Katie at wellnessmama.com These websites, along with my own research, gave me a much broader and better understanding of what is really clean. So glad you are on this journey!

  9. Hi Caitlin,
Have you tried listening to any of the episodes from the Forever35 Podcast? It's so great, and even though you're nowhere near 35, the information the women share is fantastic. They discuss a lot of natural skincare and make-up products, which is both interesting and informative.
Also, thanks for always being so great about disclosing when a post is sponsored! It's sometimes hard to tell what content is an ad or sponsored on other blogs, but you're consistently up-front about it, which your readers appreciate 🙂

  10. It's so wonderful you're trying to clear out toxins!! It's great that these products don't use parabens! However they are unfortunately far from clean or toxin free. These products have ingredients like fragrance, which can be literally anything and companies get away with it because it's a "trade secret." The main concern here are phthalates which are know hormone disrupters. Think infertility, early puberty, low sperm counts etc. They also contain retinyl which is known by the FDA to be toxic to our reproductive tracts and linked to cancer, yet still allowed in products because the FDA can't recall personal care products. They also contain pegs which are linked to skin tumor growth and have high contamination concerns with things that are known to be neurotoxic. It's so sad because there is practically no regulation in the personal care industry and companies can claim to be "natural" and "toxin free" on zero basis. The state of the industry is pitiful and so sad because chemicals keep being introduced talking 85,000+ and less than 10% are being tested for safety. And all of this is happening because we haven't had a health protective law passed regarding the personal care industry since 1938. I wish you all the best in your search for safe products and am so happy to answer questions or provide research or recommendations:)

  11. So glad you are on your journey to non-toxic beauty. I am too! Although the deodorant and breast cancer link is not accurate. I currently have breast cancer but there is no data to prove that according to my oncologist. However, it is still good practice eliminate using products with aluminum and parabens!

  12. If you want to get green beauty products check out The Detox Market – they don't sell anything that contains harsh chemicals. I've been wearing aluminum free deodorant for about 10 years, and the best I found is the Native brand.

  14. There are better all natural deodorants that "work" a lot better than Toms. Try Schmidt's Naturals or Blissoma natural deodorant. All natural, cruelty free, and neither leave you smelling like a teenage boy by afternoon! Milk and Honey also makes some nice ones but they are pricey.

  15. When pregnant for the first time I searched for a natural deodorant that actually worked – and I promise that La Vanilla does! The PregnancyPlus Natural Deodorant is also good if you can find it, though a bit strangely textured.

  16. Love that you're making the switch to safer and cleaner beauty after making the changes in your diet. I stayed away from clean beauty for sooo long because I figured it wouldn't work as well as my medicated skincare and high end beauty but after struggling with infertility and a miscarriage I started researching and found that the toxins in our beauty and skincare products are major endocrine disruptors (aka they mess with our hormones) and it scared me into going the safe route. I was pleasantly surprised that within three months my skin had actually cleared like 90% and we got pregnant!

I HIGHLY recommend the book WomanCode by Alissa Vitti. It's the book that started me on my safe beauty path but it's way more than that. Her personal story is so inspiring and the book is incredibly well-researched while being written in plain English so it's super easy to understand. I felt so much more confident in what was going on in my body and decisions I was making after reading it.

Another suggestion is the natural deodorant from Primally Pure. I tried Tom's first and it was awful haha omg I felt so wet under my armpits all day. It's like the product never dried and then I started sweating and the mix was not good. The Primally Pure one is not a wet formula, it's made with tallow, coconut oil, and essential oils, so it's more of a nourishing solid, and it truly works!

Last thing, sadly I have to agree with Rebecca who wrote about how while a lot of these products are cleaner than normal products, a lot of them aren't truly "toxin-free". There are a few ingredients which are technically natural but come from poisonous plants, or as she said "fragrance" which can really mean anything. Just something to look into. Toxic free beauty is kind of like Whole30 where you just have to get familiar with reading ingredient lists haha. But hey, even if there are a few ingredients that are ideal to stay away from, it's still a huge step in the right direction! I totally want to try that lip balm because it sounds amazing and the ingredients looked good!

  21. Crystal Rock deodorant works really well. I buy the one by Thai that comes in a stick form. You just wet the stone and use. You don’t need to buy too often since it lasts a long time. Tom’s deodorant didn’t work too well for me but I love their other products. I think Walmart even sells it
