HUGE Spring Makeup Haul + Reviews!

one shoulder top // white pants // MAC lipstick in “pink nouveau” // vanity

Last week I made a huge beauty run to pick up some new makeup items for spring. My friend and I spent a whole hour with a Sephora salesperson talking about new makeup lines, “trendy” products and the products that were selling out the fastest. For the past week I’ve been testing them at home, and I’m reviewing them here today. Some of these are my new favorite products…. others, not so much haha. Let’s get started!

First up, this dry shampoo interested me because it claims to add volume while also absorbing oil from your roots. I used it a couple of times during the past week and while I’m not a huge fan of the smell, it does do what it says it does: absorbs oil, creates volume and refreshes hair between shampoos. I think this product works best at stopping oil before it begins… I sprayed it on my roots one night before going to bed and it worked perfectly. It does have some white residue but it blends easily after you run a brush through it. I’m not giving it a full 10 stars because there are other dry shampoos I like better, like this one.
My rating: 8 out of 10 stars

Sephora Collection Tidy Detangling Comb

I always keep a comb in the shower for detangling my hair while it’s still wet. Not only is this one cute (I love the pretty pink color) but it works like a charm for detangling my hair – I actually comb through it while the conditioner is still in my hair, then I rinse. It also hangs easily from a shower caddy because of the hole in the handle.

I was lucky to snag one of these the very morning that they came out at Sephora – they sold out so fast online! I absolutely love the packaging of this kit and all the highlighter colors – it’s almost too pretty to use. The colors look SUPER glittery in the palette, but they’re not too glittery when you put them on your face. The highlighters seem to melt onto your skin – they’re easily buildable (two or three swipes is enough during the day, more for nighttime) and every single color provides a gorgeous, luminizing glow. My favorite shade so far is probably “Forever Lit.” If you love highlighters as much as I do, you have to get your hands on this product!!!

Dr. Jart Pore Minimalist Sheet Mask & Brightening Infusion Sheet Mask
I’m a huge fan of Dr. Jart products so I thought I would pick up a couple of sheet masks I had never tried before. I used the pore minimalist one day last week – this sheet mask is a charcoal mask and I really liked how it felt on my skin (it has a cooling sensation). I was able to comfortably read a book while I waited 10 minutes for the mask to “set” (although I did have to lay with my head back so that the mask wouldn’t slip off my face). The next day I didn’t notice that my pores were smaller, but I did notice that my face seemed dewy and bright and I had no blemishes. I’m giving it a 5 because it technically didn’t do what it said it would (reduce pores).

This is surprisingly one of my favorite purchases! I recently learned that you should clean your makeup brushes DAILY – I am lucky if I clean them once per week haha. I picked up this brush cleaner thinking it might be an easy way to keep my brushes clean in between washes. I used it one day, and the next day when I was applying my makeup, I kept smelling this AMAZING citrus-y scent and couldn’t figure out where it was coming from. I finally realized it was my makeup brushes! The scent is hands-down AMAZING. The formula works really well too – just a quick spritz and wipe (it works especially well on beauty blenders too) and it leaves your brushes smelling magnificent.

This is my FAVORITE product I bought!!! They carry this Dior Sugar Scrub at Nordstrom so I already ordered another one to put on my bedside table. This lip balm has grains of sugar in it that feel sooo good when you apply it – you can feel it exfoliating your lips. The grains of sugar melt away afterward – my lips have never felt so soft or so moisturized.

YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick in #10 “Beige Tribute”
I tested out a ton of nude YSL lipsticks in the store and loved this one the most. The color is a gorgeous natural nude/beige that is perfect for everyday wear. I personally think it looks better on me when I have a tan (I noticed I loved it way more after getting a spray tan!). I wouldn’t wear this color for a night out (it’s not dramatic enough) but it is PERFECT for running errands around town or a lunch date with girlfriends. I come back to YSL lipsticks again and again because the consistency is so amazing – it’s creamy and moisturizing and feels almost like lip balm on my lips.

I was really interested to try this to see how it compared to this drugstore primer that I’ve used for several years now. The Diorshow does an incredible job of priming your lashes – it seemed like my lashes were less clumpy than when I use the drugstore brand – it spreads them all out evenly and they look incredibly long with mascara on top. I wore the primer the whole time in Charleston and my mom asked if I had on fake eyelashes (I didn’t!). My conclusion is that while I do love this stuff, for the price tag I think the drugstore version works just as well and you get way more bang for your buck.
My rating: 8 out of 10 (for the price)

Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear Camouflage Concealer
I’ve been on the hunt for a good concealer that I can use both under my eyes or to cover up small imperfections or zits. The salesperson at Sephora said this one has been flying off the shelves because it doesn’t crease. You don’t have to use very much – it’s very pigmented and a little goes a really long way. After experimenting, I think it looks best when applied with a slightly damp beauty blender. You have to let it sit for a few minutes before applying powder! I only use this on days when I’m really tired and want to cover up under-eye circles but it does work really well.
My rating: 7 out of 10

I picked up Dandelion Twinkle because the salesperson told me it is one of this spring’s most popular highlighters. This is a really pretty nude-pink shade, but it’s way too subtle for me. If you’re someone that wants just a subtle hint of glow on your cheekbones and nothing too overwhelming, this might be a good product for you. For me it seemed like however much I applied, the color didn’t really show up. (I prefer the highlighters in the Anastasia x Nicole Guerriero Glow Kit mentioned above.)
My rating: 5 out of 10

  4. I do love posts like this, I am such a makeup junkie! That brush cleaner sounds good! I also love the Dior scrub, I have it as well 🙂 I tried Benefit Dandelion Twinkle as well and found I could barely see it. I love the YSL Rouge Volupte lip balms that they have now with the little heart in the middle! Not sure if you saw those when you were there!

  10. I would love for you to test the Marc Jacobs Beauty Dew Drops Coconut gel highlighter. I saw this product recommended somewhere (I don't remember where) and the reviews are amazing. I found it in the store and the sales associate put some on her hand. It was gorgeous. I just don't know much about makeup or highlighters so I would really love for you to review it!

  15. Ahh, I LOVE these kinds of posts from you, Caitlin! I have the comb in both big and travel size and I can attest to your review! It works so well with my thick wet hair. I actually like the Amika dry shampoo! I don't mind the smell because it's the best one I've found so far for my hair. I'm surprised you found it at Sephora because I couldn't find any at my stores. 🙁 I LOVE Dior (just posted a review about their nail polish) so I'll have to give their lip sugar scrub a try. I'm with you when it comes to YSL lipsticks too. They're my absolute favorite and the brand I have most of when it comes to my lipstick. I hope to see more of these posts from you! Appreciated your honesty because I love Sephora!

  25. YES! Thank you so much for your honest opinions, Caitlyn! I've been wondering about that Anastasia + Nicole kit… I feel like I can never find a highlight that's white/light enough to really show up on my uber-pale skin. Forever Lit looks promising. Really love your blog, keep up the great work!

  32. I would love to see a post with makeup products that are animal cruelty free! Many of the above test on animals (such as Chanel, Dior, Lancôme) and I would like to move away from brands who still do that. Since getting a dog last year I have been trying to be more aware and knowledgeable about the products I am using! Thanks!

  34. Yes to more beauty posts!! I love the Lancome Effacernes Waterproof Undereye Concealer – it doesn't crease at ALL and I think it's less thick than the one you tried. I use it in a light shade (Porcelaine 1) so it also acts as a brightener. Unfortunately I don't think it's a double product for blemishes; I have the Lancome Maquicomplet for that. I'm kind confused what this new one Camouflage one is supposed to do differently than their existing concealers- I'll have to ask the next time I go to buy makeup! Love your blog always 🙂
