Friday Favorites Round Two

Hey friends, I hope everyone has had a great week! I’m back for a very random assortment of Friday Favorites 🙂 Without further ado…
My first Friday Favorite this week is my new apartment in Winston Salem! I actually like it better than my one in Charlotte because the living room is smaller. That may not sound like a good thing to some of you, but it makes the room feel so cozy and inviting because of that! A few other perks: the residents before me built shoe shelves in the closet (and didn’t take them down when they left), there are windows in the kitchen, andddd the rent is a lot lower than in Charlotte! Woo!
First mirror selfie in my new place…
Pottery Barn sofa // West Elm coffee table (sold out)
The view from my kitchen when I moved in the first day
Secondly this week, I am loving platform sandals. I want to buy them all – and I’m not joking! I want each and every pair I see, haha. Here are a few of my favorites:
The thing I love about them most? They are incredibly comfortable!
Next up, perhaps the cutest thing I’ve ever seen (but I may be biased)… the day I moved in, Prince George was really scared and slept under the covers with me all night long. The next morning I was doing some work on the couch on my computer, and he was underneath the blankets next to me sleeping. When I got up, he came out from underneath the covers, but was posed to look like he was working on my laptop! IT WAS SO CUTE.
Another angle ’cause I’m a crazy cat lady!
Next! I have been dealing with anxiety and trouble sleeping for basically the past year and have been looking for ways to combat both. My friend Elizabeth introduced me to essential oils… she also suffers from anxiety. Whenever I am with her (even at a restaurant or bar), she is constantly whipping out her essential oils to apply them because they soothe her so much. So I ordered some! And GUESS WHAT! They really work. Elizabeth says this brand is the best (so that’s what I ordered). This one is really good for anxiety. I apply a small amount to the pulse points on my neck and wrists throughout the day whenever I start to feel anxious and it immediately makes me feel calmer. The smell is kind of earthy but I really love it. I also really like the peppermint oil – I apply this to my temples whenever I have a headache or I really need to focus on a task. Last but not least, I use this one at night to help me sleep – sometimes I apply it to my feet (this is supposed to work the best), but I also like putting some on my pillow just for the smell. I started out with this introductory kit and it’s amazing if you’re new to essentials oils, but it doesn’t come with vetiver – if you have anxiety you definitely need that one!
Next, I am really loving lattes made with soy milk. Soy milk is a little sweeter than regular milk and tastes soo good in coffee – I love it with a little caramel or vanilla flavoring as well! Dairy sometimes makes me feel sick, but soy doesn’t and it tastes amazing. Try it in your vanilla latte next time!

Lastly, I am loving nude lips! My friend Stephanie sent me this nude lip gloss (in color “undressed”) in the mail as a Christmas present, and I love it , especially with a tan. When I wear nude lip gloss I like to play up the eyes with a lot of mascara!
The above picture is from my snapchat (cmcoving is my username!) from one morning at Chateau Elan. I included it because I’m wearing the nude gloss – I was totally kidding about drinking wine at 11 a.m. by the way 🙂

What are your favorites this week?!

xoxo

  4. Congrats on the new place! It looks lovely. Prince George is absolutely adorable too!!! 🙂 Love that nude lipstick and thanks for sharing that info about the essential oils. I have definitely been very curious about them. Have you ever tried Almond milk? My husband only drinks almond milk and puts it in his cereal too. I also use an almond milk creamer in my coffee. It is not as sweet as soy milk but its really good. 🙂 Oh and love those sandals too!! I hope that you have a wonderful weekend!! 🙂

  5. As a perpetually anxious person as well, I've found that doing a little yoga right before bed helps me settle down. It's nothing fancy, I just YouTube "bedtime yoga" and watch a video that seems interesting. I never thought I'd be a yoga person, but it's made such a difference!

  7. You should also try magnesium pills for anxiety! It helps me sleep and my anxiety isn't nearly as much of an issue for me anymore. Take 2 before bed and it's life changing!

  51. I love essential oils. I have put a drop of lavender behind my baby girl's ears before bed since she was just a few weeks old (some say to use a carrier oil but I never did) and she would always yawn the instant I did this. I use it on myself at night too.

Dairy also doesn't sit well with me, I'm okay with a bit of yogurt but milk, ice cream (the worst!) or cream in soups, etc., give me a horrible reaction-tummy trouble and it makes my skin feel itchy b/c I'm lactose intolerant + allergic to dairy. I use and love almond milk (the Silk brand) I most prefer unsweetened original for my cereal, smoothies, etc. Instead of coffee, I mix Tazo Organic Chai latte concentrate + almond milk and it's yummy and less caffeine than coffee.

You may find that caffeine and coffee is a source of anxiety, also electronic devices in the bedroom. We always turn off our computer and especially the wifi modem while we sleep (after all, in only takes a minute to turn it back on in the morning). It's a proven fact that devices emit energy that mess up our brain waves and circadian rhythm for sleep. I also never ever sleep with my phone on (I turn it to airplane mode so it kills the signal) but it's still on so I can see the time and use my phone as a flashlight to get around in the dark. If you haven't tried that Caitlin, I highly recommend it, you will notice a big difference! xx Karla

    • Hey Chanelle, I LOVE my couch! I put blankets down before I sit on it and am careful not to eat anything while I'm sitting there! I have heard horror stories about red wine 🙂 So it has stayed really clean and nice! The only thing bad is that I moved apartments and the movers got some black marks on the side of the couch when they moved it… that could happen to ANY couch though, regardless of color. If you will be moving soon, you should hold off on the couch! haha. Hope that helps, let me know if you have any additional questions!

      5.19.16Reply
    • Thanks Caitlin it was helpful, I actually just moved to Dallas, from the Wilmington area, so maybe at some point when I am back visit my family I will run into you sometime 🙂 I think I will probably end up doing the same as you sitting on blankets and stuff lol. That stinks the movers got a mark on it 🙁 If you end up washing it let me know how it turns out. I also think I read you can always order extra cushions if one does get stained!
