Five Beauty Trends Making a Comeback this Fall

They say that everything comes back around in style again, and that is certainly true for the fashion this season: bell bottoms, baker boy caps and small sunglasses are all proof. But the same can be said for beauty! Many of these beauty & skincare trends were HUGE back in the 70s and 80s and they’re now coming back in style. Read on for the ones I’m most excited about!

The Epilator

Have you heard of an epilator? They had a big “moment” in the 80s (my mom even used one), but now they’re back! I’m excited to partner with Braun – I’ve been testing out the Braun Silk-épil 5 epilator – it’s my first epilator and now I am OBSESSED with it. It saves me so much time in the mornings because I no longer have to shave!

Basically, since the epilator works by pulling out all of the hairs by the root, you can get long-lasting smoothness wherever you want to use it, and Braun Silk-épil 5 leaves you with smooth legs for up to four weeks! Plus you can do it in the comfort of your own home without the need to book a salon appointment. To be honest, I was a little bit scared to use it at first since it can feel similar to waxing (side note: I’m a total cry-baby and avoid pain whenever I can haha). However, the pain isn’t bad at ALL. The slight discomfort is totally worth four weeks of not shaving. It also gets more comfortable the more you use it! If you’ve never used an epilator before, the Braun Silk-épil 5 has “smart sensor” or SensoSmart technology to let you know if you’re doing it wrong. It has a little light that will turn red if you’re pressing too hard on your skin, or not applying not enough pressure – a perfect guide to epilating, especially for newbies. You can use the Braun Silk-épil 5  on dry skin (fully clothed, like I am in the above photos) or on wet skin. I’ve found it works best in the bathtub – it’s 100% waterproof and because skin becomes more relaxed in the warm water it helps soothe any discomfort. I epilate on my legs, but you can also use it on your arms, under-arms, and even your bikini area. It includes different attachments – epilate, trim and shave – to achieve your hair removal results. It can be purchased on Amazon here and right now there’s a $10-off coupon that is automatically applied when you check out!

Big Eyebrows

Okay next up… big eyebrows! Big eyebrows were all the rage in the 80s… by the time I got to college, though, the “trend” was to pluck your eyebrows into tiny little lines (I was totally guilty of this, btw). Now I’m currently trying to get mine to grow back! I’ve been using this product recently and holy MOLY it works you guys. You have to be consistent with it, though – I didn’t notice a difference until about three weeks of using it consistently every night. I went from filling in my eyebrows to now having to trim and pluck them haha!

Center-Parted Hair

The center part is officially back in style! Think Marcia from Brady Bunch (she was always my favorite)!. Although I love wearing my hair parted to the side, I think it’s really fun to switch things up every now and then, too. Try parting your hair a half inch towards the middle to achieve this trendy look.

Dark/Berry Lipstick

This trend is PERFECT for the upcoming fall! I’m usually a pink lip kind of girl, but I really like to switch it up in the fall with darker lipstick – a trend that started long ago. My favorite darker lip color for the fall is MAC’s “syrup” – it’s darker without being TOO dark and it matches any skin tone.

All About Blush

I loooove blush, so I’m really excited that blush is going to be back in style this fall and winter. Specifically, a technique called blush draping. Invented back in the 70s, it’s similar to contouring in that it exaggerates curves and angles of your face to enhance your natural features. But instead of needing a bevy of contour palettes, all you need is blush! My favorite blush color in the fall is this one.

Which trend are you most excited for?! Let me know in the comments!

  12. Oooo I’ve never even heard of the epilator, but that’ll be super convenient especially during fall/winter because let’s be honest, I’m so much less motivated to shave during these seasons! Haha.

Definitely going to try to wear a darker lipstick this fall. Do you have any recommendations for fairly pale people? I’m a ginger so I definitely don’t want to go too dark! Anyway, love all of your suggestions – great read.

I’m intrigued! How long does it take to epilate (is that a real verb?) your legs?

Why not laser hair removal, I have just started full legs hair removal package (6 treatements) and only after the 2nd treatements no hair has come through at all!! I dont have a razor in my house anymore! And sooooo painless, took 15min to do full legs, brazillian and armpit. Best thing ever invented.

Thanks for the recent recommendation of the epilator! I’m trying to figure out if I should get Braun Silk-épil 9 9-961V or the one you recommended on Instagram. Do you happen to know if there’s much of a difference? I tried to look into it and it seemed like it was really just the brush heads that came in addition. Thank you!

    Such good tips 🙂
I need to try the eyebrow serum. They look great when I fill them in, and I’m hesitant to get microblading, I hope this is my answer. Thanks!!
