Blueberry Breakfast Smoothie

Do you guys remember my trip to California about a month ago? If you follow me on Instagram you may have already seen, but I was there celebrating the launch of Aveeno’s new hair collections! They have a bunch of new products out, from shampoos to conditioners to dry shampoo, and the biggest takeaway is that they’re all farm to shower (you’ve heard of farm to table, right? Same concept!). All of the products are free of sulfates, dyes and parabens, which I’ve learned is really important when choosing hair products. I was feeling super inspired after my trip to California (all of the sunshine and fresh, organic food must have gone to my head hahah!) so I wanted to create a smoothie that was inspired by my two favorite Aveeno collections: the Oat Milk Blend and the Fresh Greens collection (both of which list oats as the #1 ingredient!). After all, what you put both on your hair and in your body are equally as important!

Most mornings when I’m home, I try to make a smoothie either first thing in the morning or after my workout. This Blueberry Breakfast Smoothie is super filling (if I have it for breakfast I’m not hungry again until lunch!). I make mine with sprouted, organic rolled oats – the fiber in oats helps to slow down digestion, which stabilizes your blood sugar levels. Oats are also a good source of carbohydrates for boosting your energy and endurance (so this is the perfect pre-workout smoothie!). If you’re worried about the spinach in here – don’t be! You can’t taste it at all, and it’s rich in fiber, zinc, B vitamins, folate, calcium and more. And finally – blueberries, otherwise known as nature’s candy. Blueberries are SO good for you, they are packed with antioxidants, phytoflavinoids, potassium, and vitamin C. They can lower your risk of heart disease and cancer, and have even been shown to improve memory! I could go on, but I won’t 🙂 Read on for the full recipe.

Blueberry Breakfast Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup frozen organic blueberries
  • 1 cup spinach
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • ¼ cup rolled oats
  • ½ TBSP honey
  • ½ TSP cinnamon
  • ¼ cup Greek yogurt (optional)
  • Granola for topping (optional)

Directions

  1. I like to blend the spinach and almond milk together first to make sure there aren’t any chunks of spinach floating around! Then I add in the rest of the ingredients and bend, blend, blend. If you wish, you can top with some granola and a drizzle of honey.

Like I said, I love this in the morning before a workout – or after! Let me know if you guys try out this smoothie and what you think! xoxo

We live in San Diego so I was able to read this post after my workout and before breakfast so I made it straight away minus the honey (adding honey to my grocery list…) and it was delicious! Played with both my kids until lunch and felt great. Thank you for the recipe!

  5. Hahah, okay, normally I don’t really comment on recipe blogposts, but this one is genious, really creative! Also, how cool is a “farm to shower” concept, I honestly didn’t even hear about the new Aveeno products until this blogpost. That smoothie sounds sooo good and you always catch me with listing the benefits of healthy food – it is common knowledge I think, but a reminder here and there is always nice. Thanks for sharing this Caitlin!

This was delicious! I was a little unsure of it at first, so I only made half the recipe. I drank 2/3’rds of it and then my toddler grabbed the cup and finished it! It was so good, then I made the other half.

When I first saw the picture I thought you were going to put the shampoo in the smoothie 😂
