Drugstore Lipstick Dupes…

Happy Wednesday! Today I’m finally getting around to doing a post that I’m super excited about – some of my favorite drugstore lipsticks! I have been a fan of designer lipsticks for a really long time (YSL, MAC, Chanel, etc.). I recently took a beach trip with my family for two weeks… and when I got to the beach, I realized I had left every. single. lipstick I owned at home. So naturally, I went to CVS that night and picked up a ton of colors to try. I didn’t think I’d be very impressed with the drugstore tubes, but Y’ALL. The ones I bought are just as good as the designer lipsticks I love so much, and less than a third of the cost! I’ll take you through them one by one. First up….

braided strap top (comes in four colors, mine is brand new)
This Revlon Colorburst balm in “unapologetic” is a BEAUTIFUL coral/red color that looks absolutely gorgeous with tanned skin. The tube looks like a lip crayon, and I was a little skeptical that there wouldn’t be much color since it’s called a “balm” rather than a lipstick. However, the color is VERY pigmented, just like MAC lipstick. The thing I like about it is that it does feel very much like a balm – it is insanely hydrating and feels nice on my lips. Plus the color lasts quite a while. It is a really great dupe for a lipstick that I have owned and loved for a LONG time, MAC’s “impassioned.” The color is nearly identical – however the Revlon is much more moisturizing.

scoop neck boyfriend tee (only $19!!, wearing size small), Current Elliott distressed jeans
This Maybelline lipstick in color “electric pink” is a vibrant pink lipstick with cool blue undertones that is an IDENTICAL dupe for YSL’s “tropical pink” (which you have seen me wear over and over on this blog!). In the above photos, the Maybelline tube is on the left and the YSL tube is on the right – can you tell each lipstick is the exact same color? (Don’t pay attention to the lipstick marks on my hand.) While the YSL tube is $37, the Maybelline tube is only $7.99. It is truly an electric pink color, it really pops on your lips – it’s one of my all-time favorite colors for summer. It is pretty bold, though, and not for the faint of heart!

Maybelline’s Pink Sugar Color Sensational lipstick is a brightened, light-medium pink with warm, yellow undertones and a semi-matte finish. If the “electric pink” color is too bold for you, then this is your color! It’s a very similar hue to the electric pink, just taken down a notch. I have to apply several coats to really build up color, so if you like lighter coverage lipstick this is also a good pick for you. It’s designer dupe is MAC’s “pink nouveau” – except the MAC is slightly more pigmented. Both are beautiful!

L’Oreal’s Color Riche lipstick in pink flamingo is a fuchsia pink with cool, blue undertones and a luminous shine. Out of all the lipsticks, I like this one’s formula the best! It’s very pigmented and doesn’t need a gloss on top because it has a natural shine to it. The color is BEAUTIFUL and would suit all skin tones, from pale to tan. It’s way less vibrant than the “electric pink” and would make a great everyday lipstick. Chanel’s Rouge Coco lipstick in “Edith” is a dupe for this gorgeous color – but it’s $37.
Best drugstore lipsticks
There you have it! You can’t go wrong with ANY of these colors or formulas, and they’re available at pretty much any drugstore or Ulta. I’d love to know if you end up trying one, and your thoughts!

  5. Cait, this is such a great find, I'm all about good finds, the Maybelline #686 is my favorite, I'm more into neutral colors and I have this one when I want to add a little something fun to my lips. I usually wear MAC lipsticks but I'm glad to see you like drugstore brands as well plus you saved a little money. I recently did a post on super affordable denim off the shoulder dresses http://mariaonpoint.com/denim-off-the-shoulder-dress/ and it's gotten a lot of traction. I also just bought those jeans, I've been looking for distressed yet fitted jeans and these ones look great on you, hopefully they fit me as well.

  8. Love that you shared drug-store dupes on your blog! Pink Flamingo is my favorite color, but you're right-those Revlon lip balms are amazing. I have one in a darker more berry color and it seriously leaves a beautiful stain on my lips all day long!

  16. I definitely prefer the crayon stick type lipsticks as opposed to the tube. They always seem to just last longer and the color tends to go on smoother for me. I purchased a few at Ulta and it made me a total convert.

    • I'm actually wearing a nude sticky bra in this post! I have a bunch of nude bras because I think they are easiest to wear under white tops!

    • No they are not bad at all!! I have worn a lot of heavy earrings in the past and these are relatively light. The beads are made out of really light plastic material. You'll love 'em! 🙂

  34. Thank you for this post! I just bought 3 of the 4 lipsticks yesterday – couldn't find the matte balm so I'll get that online. 🙂 Do you vary your blush depending on the lipcolor you're wearing?

Also – just saw that you moved to Winston-Salem. Welcome! I hope you love it here as much as I do. 🙂

    6.9.16Reply
    • Hey Teri,

Thanks so much – I LOVE Winston! It's such a wonderful city and everyone is so nice here (plus, no traffic!!). I do vary my blush depending on the lipcolor – I have a pink one from Bobbi Brown for pink lipsticks, and a more coral/bronze one when I wear coral. If you want the specific names I can go get my makeup case and see!

I just have a quick question about the YSL rouge pur cotoure lipstick in tropical pink. If you wear a lip liner with it, which do you recommend?? If you don't, do you have any that you would recommend with this particular color? Thank you!!!
