The Curls Behind SC&P

Hey loves!
Over the past year I’ve received a lot of emails asking about my curly hair.

If my hair looks wet in this photo, it’s because it is!
{That’s part of the secret}

This is my natural hair {albeit it’s much shorter and blonder in these pictures}.

When I’m in the shower, I shampoo, wash, condition, comb the conditioner through my hair, then wash it out. As soon as I get out of the shower, I spray {curl shaping gel} all over my hair and then scrunch, scrunch, scrunch! I love this gel because it doesn’t leave my curls “crunchy” and you can find it at any drugstore.

Now comes the weird part… I scrunch my hair on top of my head to form a messy bun, being careful to keep the curls intact (basically I look like a wildwoman). I let it dry in a bun while I’m doing my makeup and getting dressed, then let it down and I’m out the door! I never use a hair dryer when I want ringlets.

This look is also extremely easy to achieve. When I get out of the shower, I dry my hair with a round brush, pulling each section taut with the brush.

When it’s completely dry, I twist my hair and pull it back into a low bun to let it “set” for an hour. When I take it down, voila!

There you have it, girls. Nothing too exciting, and takes me about 10 minutes flat.

Does your hair take a long time to fix in the morning?!Any tips for speediness?

Love, Cait

  1. I do exactly the same thing with my hair – If I'm heading out the door and my hair isn't dry yet I'll even wear my weirdo bun in the car until I get wherever I'm going ๐Ÿ™‚ I'll have to try the Garnier – I've been using Curls in a Bottle by Curl Junkie and I really recommend it very highly.

  5. These are great tips. My hair can be curly, but can turn frizzy. You have gorgeous hair. My daughter may have hair like yours if it will ever grow.

  6. I have curly/wavy hair as well and follow a very similar routine. I use Redken curl spray when I want curls and blow dry my hair with a round brush for loose waves. I only straighten my hair when I want it dramatically pin straight. I'm a fan of using a hair curler to touch up random pieces here and there!

  8. Cute! I have straight hair, but I think I need to try the loose waves bun thing. Hopefully it could work for my super fine hair!

  9. Ahhh you are so lucky! Your hair is gorgeous! Mine is curly but I can't ever get the curls to tame down. I almost always straighten mine in sections with the hair dryer then use my chi to touch up.

  11. Your hair is so pretty! I have curly hair, too, and I love the Garnier products! They're cheap and the work better than some of the expensive salon products I use to buy!

  12. I have been looking for a something to make my wavy hair curlier without that crunchy wet look. You're my hero! Now I don't have to try a million different products! ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. You have gorgeous hair! I will be trying out combing the conditioner through my hair in the shower I hadn't thought about that because I usally comb through it after and it isn't as curly. Thanks for sharing! ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. I always wanted curly hair! living in FL, there was so much humidity I was able to put a little bit of gel in and have messy beachy waves, but in wisconsin I can't get it to do the same, sigh!

  16. I honestly LOVE that Garnier curl gel!! I use it myself, but surely don't get close to your beautiful ringlets!

  17. My hair is the same way! ๐Ÿ™‚ I use the Garnier gel vs the spray but it still works the same for me. I have a little more difficulty with the blow out/curls because mine frizzes more.
One tip my hair dresser gave me was to use a T-shirt to squeeze some of the extra water out of your hair instead of a towel! Without the fibers the T-shirt reduces Frizz!

  20. Ok… I might some more tips on those loose curls. You wrap it in a low bun after you blowdry it straight? If I did that I am afraid it would end up looking like a hot mess, ha. I have naturally curly hair, although I haven't worn it curly since it got chopped off. I am def going to try the loose curls low bun trick once it grows out a little more! and once I'm wearing it curly again, I am going to add that gel to my list of like 10 things I use on it when I wear it curly ๐Ÿ™‚

  21. You are so lucky! Its such a hassle for me to try to curl my hair, so I basically never so it. Whether I blowdry my hair or let it air dry, it ends up pin straight. Its nice and easy at times, but when I want waves it drives me crazy!

  22. love all of the different styes! Definitely going to have to try some of them out : )

  24. You are gorgeous! My hair is naturally curly like yours but I have a hard time with it being too poofy..I think partly because I brush it when its wet (so bad, I know). I'm definitely going to try to comb it in the shower!

  26. My hair stylist used a wave curling iron for providing a bouncy look to my hairs, and I liked the idea very much, because it helped changing my looks beautifully.
