Favorite Fall Lip Colors

I’m a little bit of a lipstick snob. (Hold up – let me explain what I mean by that!) My favorite foundation is a drugstore buy, as is my favorite mascara and many other of the beauty products I use every day. However, lipstick is a different story. I don’t mind splurging a little bit on nicer lipstick because the quality is drastically better. Most drugstore lipsticks (I’ve found!) are dry, don’t last very long or taste like chemicals. Today I’m sharing a few of my favorite lipstick brands (all available at Nordstrom) that are truly worth the purchase. These brands stay on all day and are moisturizing and pigmented at the same time. One tube will last forever and the quality is drastically better… you kind of have to try it out yourself to see what I mean!

Anyways, let’s get started! The color trend I can’t get enough of this fall is a rich berry color. Lately I’ve been gravitating towards berry colors that have a hint of sparkle or sheen in them (as opposed to a matte color) because I think they look really pretty on, and are not as harsh as some dark lipsticks.

My lip routine goes a little bit like this: exfoliate, moisturize, lipstick, gloss. You can exfoliate using a product like this one, or gently using a warm washcloth. The next steps are outlined using the above photo!
One: I use Sugar Advanced Therapy lip treatment after exfoliating at night and right before I put on lipstick to moisturize my lips. This is essential if you are wearing a dark lipstick color because dry lips and dark lipsticks do not mix, haha! This particular lip balm has a sugary vanilla scent and the texture is sort of like butter – it feels amazing on your lips. When I’m not wearing lipstick I use it constantly throughout the day just because I love how it feels on.
Two: Now for one of my favorite fall lipsticks… I’m loving Rouge Dior lipstick in “rialto.” This was the first Dior lipstick I ever purchased and it’s the perfect red color with a hint of berry (I’m wearing it alone in this Instagram photo). It has a hint of metallic red sparkles in it that makes it absolutely gorgeous in person. I love Dior lipsticks because they always go on really smooth and leave your lips soft – they also smell amazing!
Three. Don’t you just love the name of this one? Kiss Kiss? Anyways, Guerlain KissKiss lip color in “cherry pink” is a little darker than the Dior Rialto and a little more berry-colored. Like the Dior, it also has a hint of sparkle, but I think it’s a more versatile color that would look good on everyone. This color is super creamy and stays put all day, which I love. You will see this lip color on repeat the entire fall!!!
Four. Lastly, I usually finish with a gloss. I wear the Dior fluid stick in “trompe l’oell” on top of both the Dior and Guerlain colors that I mentioned above – and it looks fabulous over both! I also love it alone because it’s very pigmented and stains your lips in a natural way – while also adding shine. Supposedly it was created to have a “no makeup” feel, which it definitely does when wearing alone. I love this particular color because it’s the PERFECT plum color. I’m wearing it in the outfit photos at the beginning of the post if you want to see the color up close!
If you’re skeptical about ordering lip colors online (since it’s hard to know how they will look on), I recommend heading to the Nordstrom beauty counter. They carry all of the brands mentioned above (plus a lot more) and they’ll let you try on as many as you want until you find the perfect shade. I’m like a kid in a candy store in there, haha. Anyways, I hope everyone had a great weekend! I had girl time with some of my blogger friends and got to see one of my best friends from high school. Now I’m already looking forward to the next weekend, lol!

  1. I am a totally lipstick snob too! I think the higher end brands tend to work a lot better and last much longer. I really want to invest a nice Yves Saint Laurent lipstick!

  7. I wore that Dior fluid stick color for my wedding and absolutely love it! It was my first big splurge lipstick (beyond Bare Minerals) and I do think it's worth it. Do I still buy Revlon lipsticks? Yes. But I definitely agree that the nicer brands last and wear better!! And I also agree that as long as you have a balance between drugstore and higher end it's totally fine 🙂

  16. I totally agree with you when it comes to berry lipsticks and high-end lipsticks. I am obsessed with berry colors and so excited I can start wearing them again now that it is officially Fall. I am addicted to lipstick and have so many in my collection. Although I have a few drugstore ones, lipsticks are definitely something I love to splurge on. I've never tired Dior, but the colors you picked are perfect. My current favorites are the YSL ones and so worth the money.

  23. So gorgeous! I love dark lip colors. You do it SO well! I will definitely check out your picks. PS – Revlon Colorstay is the greatest drugstore lipstick buy. It's SO pigmented and stays on so well.

Love your lipstick picks! I'm really into the deep berry color for fall too. I agree that it's important to find a lipstick with a rich color and that lasts throughout the day. I've been using Stila's Stay All Day liquid lipstick all summer and I think it's fair to say – I'm obsessed with it!
