Fall Decorating Ideas (+ House Updates!)

Good morning, everyone! I thought it would be fun to do a different type of blog post today and share how I’ve decorated for fall around the house. Fall has always been one of my favorite seasons… I love the crisp air, the crunch of leaves under your feet and everything that comes along with it – so I’m so excited to be able to decorate this year! Let’s start with the front porch…

black malta lanterns // flameless candles // mums: Lowe’s // wreath: Homegoods, similar HERE
doormat: Frontgate, similar HERE // similar hanging light fixture

I started by going to Lowe’s and picking up some mums in color-coordinating colors (I love the purple/magenta and white color combo!). Every year growing up my mom would get mums for our front porch during the fall time, so she helped me pick them out! (She has a green thumb and I do not, but I’m learning.) I also bought two white crates from Michael’s to put a few of the flowers on to create some dimension on the porch. Next I added these black malta lanterns in a few different sizes and filled them with these flameless candles – you can set them on a timer so that they turn on at the same time every night. I have mine set to turn on around 7 p.m! And finally, there’s the cutest little pumpkin patch near my house so I stopped to get some pumpkins – I’m pretty sure these are called “cinderella” pumpkins – they aren’t your typical field pumpkins and they come in pretty colors like white, light green and light orange. Every time I pull in the driveway and get a glimpse of the front porch, it makes me so happy!

Now that I finally have a kitchen table (my apartment was too small for one!), I wanted to set a fall themed table. I picked up most everything from Pottery Barn while I was at the mall one day last week, including these pumpkin melamine plates and plaid table runner. I love mixing patterns so I think the buffalo check and pumpkin combination is really cute together.

And finally, here are some shots of the Keeping Room (the room beside the kitchen) – I wanted to share with you how it’s coming along! It’s hard to tell from the pictures, but it’s super cozy – I love waking up, making a latte and then coming in this room to watch the morning news shows! One thing we are going to change about the room is the wall color – it’s a little bit too green for our liking, haha. We are thinking either a soft blue or soft grey. And we did order another chair that will go to the left of the sectional – I can’t wait for it to come in but it doesn’t even ship until December (grr)!

Happy Thursday, everyone!

xoxo

  2. I love your fall themed front porch! It is so festive! I struggle every year with mums. I buy them and they die on me so soon. Could you ask your green thumb mom what the trick is? Another beautiful fall flower is the aster.

  25. Everything looks so beautiful, Caitlin!! I love the color combo of the mum's you chose and those pumpkins really change the look of the porch aside from pumpkin patch pumpkins. Your kitchen is GORGEOUS so I can't wait to see how you style it up soon. I agree with you on the color of the keeping room. I'm partial to grey so I can always change out the decor in whatever color mood I'm in, but a soft blue is just as pretty too! Now I want to go fall decor shopping, haha!
