Capri Sun

Now that I've featured all of the Positano and Ravello content on my blog, it's time to move on to Capri. And this was one of the best days of my whole life.... an entire day spent on a boat in Capri! We had our hotel make the boat arrangements, and then met our captain at Fontelina Beach Club. He took us to all the little grottos and then anchored in the middle of the ocean next to some huge rocks so that we could lay out and get some sun. It was magical.  Now on to the outfit - I love how this outfit is retro but still practical - the head wrap really helps protect your hair from the wind! I bought both the Fendi head-wrap and my sunglasses while we were shopping in Capri the day before - I am having trouble finding the exact versions online. However, if you like my head wrap, I did find this one and this one - both on sale! I also wore this white button-up top a ton on our trip - it's really comfortable and versatile - I love tying the front in a knot.

I sometimes think if I could live the rest of my life on a boat, I would. My parents LOVE to tell this funny story from college - one time our family went on a dolphin cruise and I brought along my college boyfriend at the time. My dad says that the water got really rough and at one point he looked over and my ex was getting seasick off the side of the boat, while I looked as happy as a clam, drinking a Bud Light and eating a hot dog. Ha!

Anyway, happy Wednesday everyone! I'll be back tomorrow with an updated BOOK REVIEW! A lot of you have been asking for one, and I've read some really good books lately that I can't wait to share!

Travel Guide: Ravello, Italy

La Reveche swimsuit, similar and more affordable here

I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend! I'm finally back with my second travel guide from our trip to the Amalfi Coast (you can find my Travel Guide for Positano HERE).

From Positano, we traveled to Ravello. Ravello is known for it's blooming gardens and luxury hotels. The thing we loved most about it (aside from its beauty), is that it's less touristy than some of the other cities on the Amalfi Coast. We felt like we were really getting an authentic taste of Italy. The town is also very quiet and peaceful and is the perfect place to truly relax for a few days!

While most of the cities along the Amalfi Coast are sea-level, Ravello is situated high in the hills above Amalfi. In order to get there, you have to drive up a mountain (I recommend hiring a taxi driver, since it's a spine-tingling drive up the Valle del Dragone). It took about an hour and a half total for our taxi to drive from Positano to Ravello. If you're heading straight to Ravello from Rome, the easiest route would be to take a fast train from Rome to Salerno, and then a taxi from Salerno to Ravello. Once you're there, you won't be able to believe your eyes!

There are some VRBOs available in Ravello, however I would highly recommend staying in a hotel for the experience alone. The hotels in Ravello were some of the most luxurious hotels I'd ever seen in my life (all with spectacular views of the Amalfi Coast). Another plus is that the hotels are all walking distance from the gardens and the center of town (a 5-minute walk), so we never had to worry about transportation during our stay.

Palazzo Avino: We stayed at Palazzo Avino for two nights in Ravello. Everything about this hotel was spectacular. We opted for the Junior Suite with sea view since we were traveling with three people (the suite has room for an extra bed). It was GORGEOUS. Our room had lots of windows, three separate balconies and the prettiest view of the coast, along with very comfortable beds, an all-marble bathroom and a sitting area. In the bathroom there were plush robes and slippers for all three of us, and a staff member brought up a complimentary bottle of prosecco right after we checked into our hotel. The grounds of Palazzo Avino are also beautiful - there are two hot tubs on the roof, a pool spa, outdoor gym and many outdoor seating areas. The reception was extremely helpful in showing us around and also booking a dinner reservation for us.

Belmond Hotel Caruso: We ventured over to the Belmond Hotel Caruso for lunch one day and were blown away by the beauty of this hotel. This former 11th century palace is located at the peak of the hill with views of both sides of the Amalfi Coast. The hotel has a jaw-dropping infinity pool, as well as a garden area with several terraces and seating areas. It's honestly so hard to describe the beauty in words! We ate lunch at the pool bar one day and all agreed their pizza was some of the best we'd had on our trip, with outstanding service. Both the Belmond Hotel Caruso and Palazzo Avino are within the top two prettiest hotels I've seen in my life.

  • For breakfast, enjoy the complimentary buffet provided by your hotel.
  • Belmond Caruso pool cafe: Definitely check out the pool bar, you can dine right beside the infinity pool for lunch. Order the pizza and any dessert you can get your hands on.
  • Palazzo Avino: We shared a bunch of appetizers at Palazzo Avino's cafe for lunch on our first day. They all tasted like they came straight from the garden - fresh and delicious.

  • Palazzo Avino Terrace: The Palazzo Avino serves a mean spritz (a wine-based cocktail) which you have to try while you're in Italy. Enjoy a view of the coastline while you're sipping and enjoying countless Castelvetrano Olives.
  • Luigi's Bar: A great little hidden bar only a few steps away from Palazzo Avino. This is a great casual place for pre-dinner cocktails!

  • Mimi's Pizzeria: This is a very casual pizzeria located in Ravello. It wasn't touristy at all and the pizza and drinks were incredibly affordable. We all shared two different pizzas. One of the pizzas had mozzarella-stuffed crust!
  • Cumpa' Cosimo: Get the pasta sampler, which includes 5 to 6 of their most popular dishes. Both the bolognese and lasagna are said to be legendary.
  • Rossellinis: If you're feeling fancy, opt for Rossellinis, the Michelin Star restaurant at Palazzo Avino, and try the 7-course tasting menu.

  • Visit the gardens. Ravello is home to two gardens, both of which are a quick walk from the hotels: Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo. Tickets are only a few euro each, and you can purchase upon entry and then explore.
  • Give yourself a self-guided tour of town. There are a few dozen super cute shops to poke in and out of. Spend the day window shopping, eating gelato and tasting limoncello.
  • Celebrate happy hour on the plaza - any of the al fresco dining options will make you a perfect spritz.
  • Take a cooking class. We wanted to sign up for Mama Agata's cooking class but didn't have time - we've heard it's a must-do in Ravello. The cooking class starts at 10 a.m. and is a full affair so be prepared to stay all day and leave fully satisfied.
  • Relax! Ravello was practically built for relaxation. Book a spa appointment at Palazzo Avino's award-winning spa or simply spend the afternoon laying by the pool, reading. At Palazzo Avino's pool there are baskets filled with books for you to borrow and read.

Check out my YouTube video on my Ravello Travel Diary, below, for a peek into our hotel in Ravello. I apologize for the shorter video - since we were only in Ravello two nights, I wasn't able to get as much content as I wanted!

Be sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel to be notified when the rest of my Italy vlogs go up :)

If you've been to Ravello before and have any recommendations or suggestions, please let us all know in the comments!

Exploring the Streets of Ravello

straw tote (sold out in my color), similar & less expensive here // handmade sandals, similar HERE

I wore this blue and white dress one day to explore Ravello - one of the things I loved I about Ravello is that the entire city is walkable. Around  every corner there's a new beautiful site to see, whether it's a garden, view of the coastline or just a pretty door. This outfit was both cute and comfy for walking around town and taking in the sights. Stay tuned for tomorrow's post because I'm sharing our Ravello Travel Guide, including another vlog!

Thank you to everyone who commented or emailed me yesterday with Charleston venues and/or wedding planners! You have NO IDEA how helpful that was!! I haven't even planned anything yet and I'm already feeling overwhelmed and stressed. If you have tips about dealing with stress I'll take those too, haha! ;)

Summer Closet Staples

white camisole (a staple in my closet!) // blue striped skirt, also love THIS ONE // panama hat
Chanel handbag, similar HERE and HERE // Stuart Weitzman sandals in "bambina nappa"

This is another look I wore in Italy on the Amalfi Coast. The great thing about this outfit is it's made up completely of closet staples for summer! I ordered five different brands of white camisoles from Nordstrom to test them out and this one was the clear winner - it's just the right thickness, not see-through at all, is a pretty, pure white color and it's also super comfortable. And for less than $20, I got it in black too! I also recently purchased these Stuart Weitzman ankle strap sandals - another closet staple from Nordstrom. They have a lower heel than most of my other sandals, which makes them easier to walk in! The color, "bambina nappa" is the PERFECT neutral to wear with any outfit, casual or dressy. And finally, I also consider this blue striped skirt to be a summer closet staple, because every girl needs a cute little miniskirt in her wardrobe this summer! I love the button and peplum detailing on this one. As you can tell, Nordstrom is definitely my go-to whenever I want to find high-quality items that make up my closet essentials!

Okay, now I have to ask a favor of you guys! Chris and I are just now starting to research some wedding venues - I would love, love, love to have the wedding in Charleston. If you have any recommendations for wedding venues in Charleston or in the surrounding area I would love to know!!! Shoot me an email or leave me a note in the comments. :)

*Thanks to Nordstrom for sponsoring this post
