A Pop of Red

Nordstrom Rack Ro & De blouse // Nordstrom Rack fur vest

One of my favorite items for fall is a faux fur vest… and you know my favorite place to shop for one? Nordstrom Rack! I found this one for $26.97 last week… that is a steal! I paired it with a red blouse for a pop of color (also found at the Rack) and a red lip to match. Don't be afraid to wear bright colors in the fall! It's been gloomy here so I've had to cheer myself up somehow :) Bright colors definitely will do the trick. And for those of you who live in the Carolinas, get excited! A new Nordstrom Rack will be opening in Columbia, SC, on October 23rd. Stay tuned for details!

I'm currently on a little mountain getaway in the Highlands… so happy to report that the leaves are changing here and the high was 71 degrees yesterday… wahooo! Hopefully some fun posts from the mountains will be coming your way soon :)

Shades of Grey…

grey leopard sweater (I'm wearing a medium for a looser fit) // black distressed denim
grey booties // GiGi New York crossbody bag // monogram necklace // Celine sunglasses, similar here

Hi my name is Caitlin and I am addicted to leopard prints. Oops! But seriously now… this leopard sweater is only $30 and not to mention incredibly comfy, so can you blame a girl? (I sized up to a medium for a looser fit… wishing I had even gone with a large!) Speaking of comfy, I've been living in these distressed black jeans lately (last seen here). They fit perfectly and feel a little like sweatpants on, not going to lie (that's how comfortable they are).

Anyways, I am really excited about this weekend because Chris and I are headed to Clemson for the UNC/Clemson football game! I will probably be the only person there wearing Carolina blue… but I am totally okay with that (although I think Chris may be a little upset about it, haha). I haven't been to a football game all year, so I'm going to soak it up this weekend! Thanks for reading, y'all!

Puffer Vest...

similar navy vest // flannel boyfriend shirt, similar here
Tory Burch Kiernan boots (old), new version here // Gap jeans (old), similar here

This outfit is one of my favorite combos for fall… a plaid flannel, riding boots and a puffer vest. This vest from ShopBellaC is my absolute favorite (looks very similar to the J.Crew one!). It has leather accents and leather shoulders, which adds so much to the look and matches with riding boots. I'm also a little obsessed with this plaid flannel I just purchased - it's pretty long so you can wear it with leggings and it covers your bum, but it also looks just as good with jeans. It also comes in a few different colors!

We've had really bad weather here in Charlotte lately. The minute we stepped outside to take these photos, it started drizzling and then turned into a full-on rainstorm! It's also been pretty chilly here (which I don't mind), but I start feeling depressed if the sun doesn't come out for a few days. I've been cheering myself up with coffee and watching a lot of TV shows and YouTube videos - lately I've been obsessed with beauty YouTubers!

5 Ways to Celebrate Fall...

Since yesterday was the official start of fall, I thought it was only right that today's blog post was dedicated to five ways to celebrate. These are guaranteed to get you in the "fall" mood!

1. Make your own (healthier!) pumpkin spice latte

Pumpkin spice lattes are one of the reasons I love fall so much. However, it can get costly to stop by Starbucks every day (not to mention PSLs contain a lot of extra sugar!). This fall, why not make your own?! I want to try out this recipe that uses vanilla almond milk, pumpkin puree and vanilla. This recipe also looks good and is a lot "skinnier" than the Starbucks version!

2. Wear a scarf

(click on the items above to be taken to the product page)

Scarves are my favorite in the fall season because they are easy to take on and off, and they can add so much to an outfit. Plus you can style them a million different ways! Remember the popular Zara blanket scarf from last season? Well here's an awesome look-alike.

3. Visit a pumpkin patch

I do this every year with my friends and family… the pumpkin patch is guaranteed to make you happy (and is also a great place for fun photos with friends). Pick out the perfect pumpkin… even if you don't get around to carving it, it will still look cute on your porch!

4. Paint your nails

(click on the items above to be taken to the product page)

Painting your nails with a  fall color is an easy way to get in the fall mood! My all-time favorite fall polish is Chinchilly (not pictured), as well as the ones above, which are tried-and-true favorites. I rarely stray away from Essie polish because I love the quality and how smoothly it goes on. (But I do always finish with a top coat of Seche Vite to make my polish last longer!)

5. Decorate your house

(click on the items above to be taken to the product page)

You don't have to spend a lot of money to make your house look like fall. A new fall candle or a garland of fall leaves are both easy ways to get your house or apartment ready for the season. (I always set out a dish of candy corn, too, which can be dangerous if you have a sweet tooth like me!)

How do you get in the fall mood? Let me know in the comments!

Pink & Navy...

navy wrap dress (less than $50!) // pink tweed clutch (OBSESSED), handbag version here
bow shoes (pink not available online), similar here & here // MAC lipstick in "pink nouveau"

Pink and navy is one of my favorite preppy color combinations. There's something about the combo that's just so happy! The good news is that you can wear these colors together all year long, since navy looks natural in the fall and winter. The wrap dress I'm wearing is a favorite of mine - for less than $50 it's really good quality and there are literally dozens of ways you can style it… with riding boots, booties, pumps, flats, with a vest or with a variety of statement necklaces (I'm wearing a size small). Oh but the clutch - I am a little obsessed with the clutch!!! It has tweed on the front in varying colors but is predominantly pink. And it's also less than $60!

On another note, I'm so happy that fall is officially here! I've already switched out my wardrobe, bought fall candles and tonight I'm testing out some healthy pumpkin recipes. Not only do I love pumpkin, but I also love baking (it helps me de-stress!). I'm hoping to find a good recipe for low-cal pumpkin cookies. If I find one, I'll be sure to share with you! (Or if you know of any, let me know!!) Thanks for reading!

Favorite Fall Lip Colors

I'm a little bit of a lipstick snob. (Hold up - let me explain what I mean by that!) My favorite foundation is a drugstore buy, as is my favorite mascara and many other of the beauty products I use every day. However, lipstick is a different story. I don't mind splurging a little bit on nicer lipstick because the quality is drastically better. Most drugstore lipsticks (I've found!) are dry, don't last very long or taste like chemicals. Today I'm sharing a few of my favorite lipstick brands (all available at Nordstrom) that are truly worth the purchase. These brands stay on all day and are moisturizing and pigmented at the same time. One tube will last forever and the quality is drastically better… you kind of have to try it out yourself to see what I mean!

Anyways, let's get started! The color trend I can't get enough of this fall is a rich berry color. Lately I've been gravitating towards berry colors that have a hint of sparkle or sheen in them (as opposed to a matte color) because I think they look really pretty on, and are not as harsh as some dark lipsticks.

My lip routine goes a little bit like this: exfoliate, moisturize, lipstick, gloss. You can exfoliate using a product like this one, or gently using a warm washcloth. The next steps are outlined using the above photo!

One: I use Sugar Advanced Therapy lip treatment after exfoliating at night and right before I put on lipstick to moisturize my lips. This is essential if you are wearing a dark lipstick color because dry lips and dark lipsticks do not mix, haha! This particular lip balm has a sugary vanilla scent and the texture is sort of like butter - it feels amazing on your lips. When I'm not wearing lipstick I use it constantly throughout the day just because I love how it feels on.

Two: Now for one of my favorite fall lipsticks… I'm loving Rouge Dior lipstick in "rialto." This was the first Dior lipstick I ever purchased and it's the perfect red color with a hint of berry (I'm wearing it alone in this Instagram photo). It has a hint of metallic red sparkles in it that makes it absolutely gorgeous in person. I love Dior lipsticks because they always go on really smooth and leave your lips soft - they also smell amazing!

Three. Don't you just love the name of this one? Kiss Kiss? Anyways, Guerlain KissKiss lip color in "cherry pink" is a little darker than the Dior Rialto and a little more berry-colored. Like the Dior, it also has a hint of sparkle, but I think it's a more versatile color that would look good on everyone. This color is super creamy and stays put all day, which I love. You will see this lip color on repeat the entire fall!!!

Four. Lastly, I usually finish with a gloss. I wear the Dior fluid stick in "trompe l'oell" on top of both the Dior and Guerlain colors that I mentioned above - and it looks fabulous over both! I also love it alone because it's very pigmented and stains your lips in a natural way - while also adding shine. Supposedly it was created to have a "no makeup" feel, which it definitely does when wearing alone. I love this particular color because it's the PERFECT plum color. I'm wearing it in the outfit photos at the beginning of the post if you want to see the color up close!

If you're skeptical about ordering lip colors online (since it's hard to know how they will look on), I recommend heading to the Nordstrom beauty counter. They carry all of the brands mentioned above (plus a lot more) and they'll let you try on as many as you want until you find the perfect shade. I'm like a kid in a candy store in there, haha. Anyways, I hope everyone had a great weekend! I had girl time with some of my blogger friends and got to see one of my best friends from high school. Now I'm already looking forward to the next weekend, lol!
