Stars & Stripes

Even though the fourth of July is still a week away, I can't help but get excited about it. Swimsuits, hot dogs, and fireworks are just a few of the things I'm looking forward to! Be sure to incorporate lots of red, white, and blue into your wardrobe to celebrate in style.

More outfit inspiration...

Happy weekend!

Photo Updates

Hey frands!

So sorry I've been M.I.A lately. I've taken a few road trips and have been so busy that I haven't had much of a chance to sit down at the computer.

Even though my Nikon hasn't come with me on my adventures, my phone has... and I managed to document some of my latest happenings. They're not the best pictures in the world, but they'll do for now :)

The last two outfits shown are from Forever 21. Speaking of, I've been on a huge Forever 21 kick recently. I always have to try on a ton of things to find out what I like/what fits right, and I tend to only buy "trendy" items there since they don't last very long... but you just can't beat the price tag!

One more thing... I'm going "sugar free" for two weeks! This week is the start of week #2, and it's been incredibly hard to go without dessert {especially because ice cream is my weakness}. However, I am starting to see a lot of positive effects from it, and I've learned a few tricks to make it easier. If you guys are interested, I can dedicate a whole post to it?

I hope you're all doing well, and I can't wait to catch up on your blogs!

Shades of Summer

Hello bebes!

As the summer begins to heat up, I always seem to find myself searching for the perfect pair of sunnies. Not only do they protect your eyes from harmful UV rays, {because your eyes can get sun damage too, not just your skin!} but they're the perfect accessory to a chic outfit.

This year, every major designer has come up with his or her own take on traditional styles, most of them a retro throwback to the cat's eye sunnies of the 50s or the round frames of the 70s. Whatever your preference, one thing is for sure: bold is big. Don't be afraid to try out shapes you normally wouldn't wear - it's all part of the fun!

If these {or their price tags} don't strike your fancy, keep in mind there a plenty of inexpensive retro sunnies out there.

I picked up {this pair} from Forever 21 a few days ago for only $5.80. And because they're cheapies, I don't have to worry about breaking them when I throw them in my beach bag!

I feel like a diva when I wear them. Or maybe a bug.
Just call me #divabug

That's all for today folks. Happy weekend! :)

Summer Grape Salad

Hi babes!

Have I got a treat for you today...
{and it's healthy, too!}

Without further ado, I introduce your new greatest obsession:

The title is deceiving. It's not really a "salad" per say, although it does contain nutritious ingredients such as grapes, greek yogurt, and chopped walnuts. However, this summer salad is sweet enough to be eaten as dessert. It's more than perfectly satisfying... it's OMG good. In fact, I had to portion it out in ramekins in order to keep from overeating {trust me, one bite of this stuff and you'll want to eat it alllll}.

It may not look like the tastiest dessert ever, but... please.

Trust me on this.

Recipe as follows:
{adapted from this recipe}

Ingredients:
2 cups seedless green grapes
2 cups seedless red grapes
8 ounces plain Greek yogurt
4 ounces light cream cheese
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract, to taste
1/2 cup crushed walnuts
2 tablespoons packed brown sugar

Directions:
1. Set out the cream cheese to allow it to soften.
2. Wash and thoroughly dry all grapes, then slice in half. Place aside.
3. Mix together Greek yogurt, softened cream cheese, sugar and vanilla extract in a large bowl.
4. Stir in grapes until evenly distributed.
5. Portion into 8 ramekins (or you can pour into a large dish).
6. In a separate bowl, stir together the walnuts and brown sugar, then sprinkle atop each ramekin.
7. Chill until you're ready to serve!

Current Craving + a Winner!

Hey lovelies!

Oh I could just go on and on about my current craving...

Not only are maxi skirts simply gorgeous (and donning one makes you immediately feel like royalty), but they're insanely comfortable! Pair neutral skirts with bold colors up top... and the opposite goes for the bright colors. A shocking cobalt blue deserves to be the centerpiece of the outfit, with only a few pops of color in the accessories.

For a trendier take on the classic maxi skirt, look for two things: texture and hemline. A sheer overlay makes a long skirt delicate and sexy at the same time, while an asymmetrical hem shows of tan legs. I love the teal skirt because it incorporates both. {And let's be real, $80 for that beauty can hardly be considered a splurge. It's stunning!}

But, alas... my favorite, favorite, favorite look would have to be {this neon pink beauty}, paired with a simple denim jacket and sunnies...

In love.

On to other topics... such as announcing the winner of the Zobha workout gear giveaway! I did the "random number generator," and the first number that came up was...

Eleven!
Congratulations, Kimberly! Email me at {southerncurlsandpearls@gmail.com} and we can get you your cute new workout gear. Thank you to everyone who participated in the giveaway!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Friday... and what about you guys? Are you as obsessed with maxi skirts as I am?

What I'm Loving...

Hey friends!

Happy Wednesday... it's been a while, huh? I've been practically living out of my suitcase lately, with family vacations and road trips and reunions occurring out the wazoo. I'm finally home, though, and hoping to stay put for a while {and enjoy my summer!}. I've been going through a pretty rough patch recently, and have had to make a lot of tough life decisions. It helps to take time to appreciate the little things that make life great. This week, I'm loving...

1. The hydrangeas growing in our garden

They make the perfect decoration for the kitchen table!

2. This lipstick

I have been wanting this lipstick forever, and finally got it a few months ago. I knew I wanted a pretty coral/peach color, and this is it! It goes on smoothy, is highly pigmented, and has a delicious mango scent.
If you don't mind splurging a little for lipstick, this is the one to buy!

3. Vanilla ice cream cones from the drive-thru

McD's {vanilla ice cream cones} are the perfect cool & creamy summer dessert, and I've been treating myself to them regularly. At 170 calories, I don't feel guilty at all!

4. Chain link bracelets

Lately I've been falling in love with chain bracelets. These by {loren hope} are classic...
{tortoise link}{lindsey gold link}

But I'm also loving neons and fun takes on the classic chain link, like these from etsy.

I'm in love with this nautical-inspired one! Love. Love. Love.

5. Finally, I'm loving these neon shorts I picked up at J.Crew a few weeks ago...

{chino short}

They are incredibly comfortable, and a shocking shade of pink that complements a tan. I styled them with a white linen blouse for a trip to the Biltmore last week. I love how you can dress them up or down!

Finally, my family and friends should also make the list of "Wednesday Loves" this week. Thank you all so much for your love and support! I don't know where I'd be without your advice and encouragement.

P.S. Don't forget to enter my {Zobha workout gear giveaway} that ends TONIGHT!! Time is running out! :)
