Announcing: A New Series

So.

I'm very excited to introduce you to the new series I'll be doing in February, called "Belles of the Beach."


Basically, the series will be in preparation of Spring Break 2012, or whatever vacation you have planned this spring! My university's spring break falls at the beginning of March this year (early, huh?) and it dawned on me that I only have one more month to prepare.

I don't know about you guys, but I get so pumped up for beach season. 

I want this February's "Belles of the Beach" series to inspire you to be your best self for the beach... and beyond. Each week will feature meal plans, recipes, workouts and tips for that perfect bikini bod (yep, it's gym season). As for fashion, we'll look at celebrity vacation style, what to buy before your trip, and packing lists galore. 

I hope everyone is as excited for this as I am!

Forget belles of the ball... let's be southern belles of the beach.

What I'm Loving

Soo it's Wednesday and that can only mean one thing... It's time for a "What I'm Loving" post!

This week, I'm loving: 

1. NYC!

I just found out that I got accepted to take a trip to New York with a group from UNC in March. We'll be touring some of the major magazine companies there and meeting up with alums. I've never been before, so I'm incredibly excited!

2. New Flavors!


Cheerios recently came out with two new flavors, peanut butter and dulce de leche. I haddd to pick up a box of the peanut butter - and can now safely say that it will change your life. The peanut butter flavor is very present but they're the same ol' Cheerios you love.

3. Blonde Moments


I admit this is pretty embarrassing... but say it out loud. Doesn't EXpresso sound way better? Please tell me I'm not the only one who thought this.

4. Spring Fever

I know, I know, it's still JANUARY! But these warmer temperatures in the south seriously have me craving Spring. It doesn't help that all my favorite stores are releasing their Spring 2012 lines, so I've been drooling over bathing suits and flowy tops. Recently, I've been lusting after gorgeous rooms decorated for spring:

My mom sends me pictures of Lilly every day while I'm at school. This one is definitely stuffed animal status, don't you think? I miss her severely, but my mother's updates help out!

Jet Setter Style

So...
I realize we're in the middle of Winter with even colder weather on the way, but turtlenecks and chunky sweaters have gotten awfully old as of late.

Instead, I've been thinking of suntans and tropical breezes. When I'm class, you can bet I'm daydreaming about laying on a comfortable a lounge chair and sipping a pina colada (this may or may not include being fanned by the tan island boys).

Whether you're jet setting to the tropics to escape the cold weather, or just planning spring break with your friends, take a peek at these resort trends for 2012.

This resort season, look for bright colors (think azure blue, coral, and aquamarine) and fun, funky patterns. 
Natural fabrics and textures, such as wood and leather detailing, are also in style.

Healthy Eating: Fast Food Edition

One of my New Year's resolutions is to eat healthier!

Although I hardly ever eat at fast food restaurants, sometimes you just can't avoid 'em. Especially if you're in a hurry or on a long road trip. But stopping at a greasy hamburger joint doesn't mean you have to order the greasy hamburger... you can make healthy choices when you need a quick meal, if you know what to order.

The following are my favorite fast-food picks, all for under 300 calories.

Chick-fil-A
Chick-fil-A is one of the healthier fast food places around. They offer grilled chicken, fresh veggies and colorful fruits, all served with some big flavor.


I use only half of the dressing packet (mmmm honey mustard... my fave) and I leave off the tortilla chips that it comes with. This salad is a little spicy, which I love, but beware- it's HUGE and always leaves my belly a little swollen after I eat it... in a good way of course!


I'm pretty sure I will order off of the kids' menu forever. Seriously!
I loveee Chick Fil A's chicken nuggets... and instead of fries, I order a small fruit cup on the side. The cup is filled with fresh apples, strawberries, oranges and grapes, and all that protein really makes me feel satisfied.

Wendy's

I know it's hard to imagine stopping by a Wendy's without ordering a cool, creamy frosty (my favorite growing up!) but let's take a look at one healthier option...


This cup of chili may look weak, but it has some BIG muscles. This meaty favorite is low in fat and high in fiber and protein, so it will fill you up fast. And it's perfect for a cold winter night!

Taco Bell

There are plenty of items on Taco Bell's menu that pack in calories and saturated fat. Luckily for you and me, they created this special menu called the "Drive thru diet" with healthier on-the-go options.


These fresco soft chicken tacos are by far your best bet, with the fewest grams of saturated fat and the most protein! Not to mention I'll eat anything wrapped in a tortilla.

Subway

Although Subway boasts a healthy menu, it's definitely possible to go way wrong when ordering a sub. The thing to watch out for? Their sauces, which can add unnecessary calories and fat. The one awesome thing about Subway is that you can get as many veggies on your sub as you want, without adding virtually any calories.

I'm a creature of habit, and always order the same thing...


You can't go wrong with turkey and cheese on wheat bread... just add in veggies and yellow mustard for the perfect meal!

A New Addition..

Hello darlings!

I would love to introduce you to the newest addition to our family...


Meet our new puppy Lilly!
(Yes, she's named after Lilly Pulitzer)


She's a Bichon Frise, and isn't she just the cutest lil' thing that you ever did see?

She's playful and she also loves to cuddle. Everything she does is adorable. But I think she has been missing her mommy & brother... it's been tough to get sleep in our household because she whimpers at night! It's heartbreaking.

Yesterday was her first trip to PetSmart... and of course we got her everything "pink" :)

But I'm sure that would get boring, so I shall move on.

Christmas break officially ends Monday, and I'll have to leave Lilly at home and head back to Chapel Hill.
As of late, I'm enjoying being at home, catching up with friends, and reading.

For New Years, we went to Howl at the Moon, a dueling piano bar in downtown Charlotte.
It was incredible! A little older crowd, but the pianists were SO talented.
It was a great New Years!


I hope everyone has had a wonderful Christmas/New Years/break, etc! 
I know I have, but I'm a little ready to be back at school and on a schedule again. I hate not having a schedule everyday, it puts me in a funky mood! I need a schedule and stability, STAT.
