The Princess Wave & A Fun Treat

Hey ya'll!

I haven't had much time to catch up on everyone's blogs, but I promise you that I will by the end of this week!

Despite all of the craziness with work, I managed to squeeze some fun in last night for my friend Sarah's 21st birthday.

Sarah and I when we were just babies in KD!

A bunch of us drove to her hometown last night to surprise her! We were all sitting at a huge table at Bonefish, waiting for her to arrive. She thought she was just going out to dinner with her family, and when she saw us all she could do was scream. She was probably bummed that she was planning on having a "boring" 21st birthday. Well we proved her wrong :)

I wanted to share with you a great idea that Sarah's sister had for her 21st birthday. Each of our friends made two 8 x 8 scrapbook pages and we each gave her a "task" that she had to complete by the end of the night.

This was mine - it was super easy to do!

Then we put all of the scrapbook pages in a "21st birthday book" so she could keep it forever.

On the first page, there was a place for her to sign her name at the beginning of the night. And on the last page, there was a place for her signature when she got home from the bars. You can imagine how different they looked! ;)

I also wanted to share with you a July 4th treat that I found on Sweet Tooth Sweet Life, one of my favorite food blogs. Courtney is so cute, if you haven't checked out her blog before, you definitely should!

Anyway, this Stars and Stripe Cookie Cake looks super easy (and just look how pretty it is!).

YUM! I'm planning on making this cookie cake for the weekend.

Here is the link to the recipe, and if you're looking for more 4th of July recipe ideas, you should check out this blog post. She makes the most amazing cupcakes! :)

Sorry to keep it short! I'm off to class... and internship... and film.... Only one day until the weekend!

Red, White, and Blue

One of my favorite holidays is coming up! The fourth of July is such a fun holiday for several reasons...

1. It's summer, which means warm weather
2. You're surrounded by family and friends
3. Cookouts (and cookout food!)
4. Fireworks!

But what's even better than enjoying the fireworks?

Getting dressed in red, white, and blue.

For this holiday, it's imperative that you feel comfortable in whatever you choose to wear. You can't go wrong with shorts and a cute top when you're going to be outside all night!

Pick One

Gold earrings, Sweetie Pie, $28
White tank, Net-a-Porter, $47.60
Wide Resin bangle, J Crew, $22.50
Checked shorts, Madewell, $59.50
Sandals, J Crew, $39.50

This look is classy and also very comfortable.
Tuck in your tank to accentuate the high-waisted shorts.
And since the shorts are the focal point of the outfit, so don't worry about trying to accessorize too much.

Pick Two

Floral print cotton top, Marc Jacobs, $180
Rhinestone drop earrings, Badgley Mischka, $95
Linen shorts, Madewell, $59.50
Jack Rogers, Nordstrom, $97.95

This is probably my favorite look!
The floral top is so feminine and flirty.
The linen shorts are so comfortable.
And these earrings? I'm dying for them...
they're Carolina blue!

Pick Three

Saltwater blouse, Anthropologie, $78
Gold dangle earrings, Kenneth Jay Lane, $90
Jean shorts, Elizabeth & James, $165
Gold and white bangles, Nordstrom, $58
Wedges, Sperry Topsider, $90

You can never go wrong with gold and white!
While the jorts dress this look down, the wedges make this outfit sizzle!

Pick Four

Gold earrings, Sweetie Pie, $42
Silk intermission top, Madewell, $88
Large gold runway watch, Michael Kors, $240
Sidewalk short, J Crew, $65
Gold thong sandals, Tory Burch, $195

This red silk top is attention grabbing, and the gold accessories really dress it up.
But you can still catch fireflies in these sandals!

What part of Fourth of July are you looking forward to most?

Just Call Me Grandma Cait

Happy Saturday, everyone!

I, for one, am ecstatic that it's finally the weekend. My skin hasn't seen the sun in, I don't know, two weeks (!!!), which is unheard of for me. I just want to get out in the sun!

You see... during the week, I'm pretty much a grandma.

Just call me Grandma Cait
Yeah. My bedtime is 10 o'clock, I wake up before the sun, and I come home from work too tired to do anything but pop a frozen meal in the microwave.

Reason #1 I've been a grandma:
In my spare time, I've been knitting painting a bookshelf that I found at a consignment shop.

Reason #83 I've been a grandma:
My form of entertainment has been browsing the aisles of The Bookshop in Chapel Hill, looking at all of the old books. Some of them are so beautiful! I found these two books from the 1960s and thought they would look pretty sitting on a bookshelf...

I love thinking about those in the past who have read these... what kind of stories do they have to tell? Where are they now?

Since yesterday was Friday, I finally got out of grandma-mode to enjoy a glass of wine, complete with star-shaped plastic ice cubes..

Along with a blue cup at He's Not..

And today will be spent recovering.... since Grandma gets tired easily.

Now it's time to go clean the dentures.

(Kidding).

What are your plans for the weekend?

Summer Sippers

I can't keep secrets from you guys. I have a rather strange fetish, if you will.

I'm a little, teensy bit obsessed with cups.

Yes, I said cups.

Water bottles, mugs, saucers, glassware, pitchers, wine glasses, tumblers... if it's a cup, I'm probably obsessed with it (Well, if it's cute, that is).

And since today is the first day of summer, what better way to celebrate than by sipping icy cold lemonade out of a cute cup!

Maybe you'll understand a little where I'm coming from when I show you these... my favorite summer sippers for this season!

Click on the above image to get a closer look at my favorite cups!

1. Straw tumbler, Target, $11.99 for a set of six
2. Monagrammed tumbler, Tervis Tumbler, $25
3. Water goblet, Target, $31.99 for a set of four
4. Aladdin To-Go Tumbler, Target, $10.39
5. Bubbly Daisy Saucer, Kate Spade, $80 for a pair
6. Cup and Saucer, Kate Spade, $30
7. Helianthus Goblet, Anthropologie, $8
8. Recycled Glass Juice Pitcher, World Market, $12.99

Doesn't this make you happy? Or am I the only one?

Oh and I think this song was made for me (Hint - it's about cups).

I actually have this song on my iPod (I know, I know, but isn't it catchy??).

My cup, my cup. More of a friend than a silly pup, my cup.

Okay, I'm done singing to myself now.

So, what's the verdict? Am I crazy? Or do you love cups as much as I do?

Happy first day of summer, everyone!

It's Better Than a Band-Aid

As you can probably tell, I love summer trends! One article of clothing that I've been wearing a lot of lately is... ta da! The bandage skirt.

They can be a little intimidating. I mean, the reason they're called bandage skirts is because they wrap around you like a bandage -and yes, that means they can be very tight! But don't let that scare you, I promise that they can look good on everyone.

The first step is finding the right skirt for you, determined by the fit, color, and pattern.

1. If you are modest...

... you might want try a longer bandage skirt, like this one from BCBG. Look for cuts just above the knee for the most flattering fit. This look is dressy enough to wear to work but sexy enough to wear for cocktails afterwards. Diane von Furstenberg designed this brilliant skirt, but if you're looking for something a little playful, I'm loving the stripes on this BCBG one.

2. If you like to have fun...

... you'll love this embroidered tier skirt by Monrow. This skirt is fun, flirty, and right on trend. Geometric shapes are hot, and this cute skirt has little triangles embroidered on each tier! This is perfect for summer - wear it to the pool over your bikini or out on the town with your girlfriends.

3. If you want to enhance your curves...

... this striped knit skirt from BCBG will do it for you. It has two secret powers: stripes and ruching, both of which are perfect for disguising any imperfections and making your shape look flawless! This one by Alexander Wang is even a little longer.

  4. If you're girly...

...you should try this feminine skalloped skirt from Forever 21.The scalloped hem is flirty and the royal blue hue is classy. Perfect for a date night. To keep it feminine, look for lace or crochet like this BB Dakota skirt. Adorable!

5. If you're bold...

...then go for bright colors like this hot pink skirt by Susana Monaco. You don't even have to pair it with a bland colored top - I say the brighter the better! Teal? Orange? Go for it. Wanna go cheaper? I own this teal beauty from American Apparel, but they come in seventeen lovely colors!

Now that we've assessed the skirts..

They key to pulling it off is what you wear on top. I love to wear batwing tops that are looser-fitting to complement the tightness of the skirt.

For example, I would put together something like this:

{1, 2, 3}

Or this:

{1, 2, 3}

If you want to wear a sleeveless top, I recommend one with ruffles or an asymmetrical hem.

{1, 2, 3}

I own the white one (pictured above) from Target, and wore it out last night.

The great thing about the bandage skirt is that it can be worn all year long with the right top and the right accessories.. even in the cooler months!

Fall
At a Carolina football game in November
Winter
Before a band party in February
Spring
In Palm Beach for Spring Break '11

What do ya'll think about bandage skirts?

The Real World

After enjoying a leisurely month at home sleeping in and laying out by the pool, today I feel like I've been jarred awake to the real world.

Yesterday, I packed up my car..

Yes, that is a box of cookies in my front seat

And hit the road to Chapel Hill.

Yesterday was spent cleaning, unpacking, catching up with roommates, and spending a lot of money at the grocery store.

Please tell me how one little girl can spend $99.59 at Harris Teeter?! Almost a hundred freaking dollars?? I guess they were right.. don't ever go grocery shopping on an empty stomach. Oops.

Today was busy too - it was the first day of my internship and my summer school class!

What I wore to class

After I got off my internship this afternoon, I stopped by HomeGoods to do a little shopping.

I ended up with these cuties and a hanging shoe organizer for my closet.

I'm having major anxiety, though. I have homework that hasn't been started, some calls to make for my internship, and on top of that, I haven't gotten a chance to decorate my room yet. The blank walls have been staring at me while I sleep and are driving me crazy!!

I apologize for being such a terrible blogger this week. I know this post is probably making you yawn (and to tell you the truth I'm even yawning right now.. I'm exhausted!) but I promise when things settle down I will have better things to post about.

I hope everyone is having a great week! It's almost Friday!!!

A Tuesday Throwback

I'm just a little bit obsessed with Cheryl Ladd in the old episodes of Charlie's Angels. I think I've DVRed every episode, and I could watch them all day long.

For today's "Tuesday Throwback," I'm loving this look of Cheryl's from the 70s:

Aviators, crisp white shorts, and a nautical striped sweater make the perfect outfit for the beach.

Want to re-create the look for this summer?

1. White shorts, Net-A-Porter (Just now sold out! Similar styles found here and here)
2. "Cyrille" Aviators, Tom Ford, $450
3. Braided Temple Aviators, Halogen, $78
4. White denim shorts, J Crew, $79.50
5. Schooner striped top, Marc Jacobs, $105
6. Knitted tie-back top, Top Shop, $66
7. Striped sweater, J Crew (Just now sold out! Similar styles found here and here)

Sweaters aren't just for Winter, ya know.

Just roll up the sleeves and they're perfect for a windy night at the beach.
Or use them as a bathing suit cover-up.
These sweaters are lightweight and breathable.
And I'll be wearing mine all summer long!

Happy Tuesday, lovelies!

Wedding Picture Recap

For this post, I'm going to let the pictures do most of the talking! As you all know, my cousin got married this weekend..

Rehearsal Dinner: Friday, June 10, 2011

What I Wore
(It was casual - we ate hot dogs and hamburgers)
Top: Fab'rik, Shorts: Tommy Hilfiger

The Wedding: Friday, June 11, 2011

It was a beautiful wedding!

I wanted to thank all of you for your input on how I should get my hair done! The majority of you said you liked "Option 1" the best... so that's what I went with!

The bridal party had their hair styled at the House of Style in Kernersville, NC (Here's their facebook page). If you live in this area, I would HIGHLY recommend this place. Lauryn was our hairdresser (my aunt has been going to her for years) and she is a miracle worker! I love what she did with everyone's hair, and she was so, so sweet!

We stayed at the reception really late last night dancing, setting off sky lanterns, eating cake, and lighting sparklers, so I didn't go to bed until the wee hours of the morning. I think I'll opt for a lazy day today!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend! :)

A Little Help...

Hey bloggy friends!

Tonight, I must enlist your help in a decision I have to make (but it's a fun one, I promise).

I am a bridesmaid in my cousin's wedding on Saturday! I have a hair appointment that morning and the bride has requested that all of her bridesmaids get updos. Well, that's where my dilemma comes in. I'm as indecisive as they come! I have been searching the internet for days trying to find an updo that I love...

The good news: I've narrowed it down to three choices. If I share them with you, could you help me out? I trust yall's judgement :)

Carrie Underwood has always been a style-idol of mine. With this style, I love the little "pouf" in the top and the pretty curled bun.

Julianne Hough is too cute! I love how fun this look is. Some might call it "messy," but I actually really like the loose tendrils that frame her face.

My hair is naturally curly like Taylor's, so for this look all the hairdresser would have to do is take a curling iron to it and pin it up. I'm in love with this updo as well!

So now the question is, which one is your favorite?? Aka, how should I get my hair done for the wedding Saturday?

Apologies, I just now realized that all three are blonde country music artists. I wonder what that says about me! :)

Thanks so much!!

Love, Caitlin

What the Hail!

Happy Thursday!

Sorry if this post seems a little... random. Because it I'm not going to lie, it's going to be a random one. This week, I'm all over the place. I moved into my new house in Chapel Hill yesterday and cleaned my grandparents' house all day today (for money, of course), and this weekend will be filled with events for my cousin's wedding.

There are three things on my blogging agenda for today...

1. This Salad

Source

The Strawberry Poppyseed and Chicken Salad from Panera is back for the summer! It's my all-time favorite salad ever, topped with pineapple chunks, mandarin oranges, strawberries, blueberries, pecans and grilled chicken, and drizzled with a delicious poppyseed dressing. My grandfather brought me one for lunch today and I had forgotten just how good it is. And for only 340 calories, it's a winner. I suggest you head out to Panera right now and get yourself one.

2. This Summer Trend

I'm in love with this summer's trend of resin bangles. I found several the other day at Belk that I'm in love with, including these two white and red geometric resin bangles (for only $8.99 each!).

They are cute and basically indestructible, since they're made of plastic. I was even more excited when I realized that my red bangle looks exactly like the Marc Jacobs one..

Don't they look exactly the same? Oh yeah, except for that weird... triangular thingy... on the Marc Jacobs..

It's okay. I like mine better (and it doesn't hurt that mine was $52 less).

3. This Book

Source

I downloaded Water for Elephants on my Nook after seeing the movie, and finished it a couple nights ago. I loved the movie, but my love for this book is equally as much. The book is captivating, and gives you a lot more insight into the characters' lives than the movie did. Some of it is a bit... shocking... but I would definitely recommend it! I could barely put it down!

Now to explain the title of this post...

While in the midst of writing this post, it started hailing so hard that I'm scared our skylights are going to break. It sounds like there are rocks falling from the sky. Not kidding. I'm actually kinda scared. I like thunderstorms in the summer but not HAILSTORMS, good gracious.

I ran downstairs real quick and...

My backyard when the hail first began

thought it might have been snowing. Nope, just chunks of ice.

EEK, that thunder is a little too loud for me, I'm about to turn this baby off and HIDE!

Love, Caitlin

PS. Stay tuned for an upcoming blog post tonight... I need your help with a decision I have to make!
