Hats On to the Princess

In honor of the royal wedding (13.5 hours to go!) this post is dedicated to Kate Middleton, and in particular, her hat collection. Kate's style is sophisticated and elegant at the same time, and if you haven't heard, her hats are making quite a buzz! The princess-to-be has been spotted several times wearing a fascinator hat, and according to CNN, the trend is starting to catch on in the U.S.

The Fascinator

This one is made by Vivien Sheriff, but she also has been seen in Philip Treacy designs as well. In fact, Treacy has said he will be designing hats for some of the royal wedding guests!

In the U.S., fascinator sales have gone up tremendously, and they've been popping up in weddings and at cocktail parties. I love this one:

I'm not sure if I could pull this look off, though. However, I would definitely wear this hate of Kate's:

It reminds me of Kentucky Derby! It would be beautiful paired with a cocktail dress. I have one that is similar, but in white, that I wore to a cocktail.

My roommate, Sallie, and I in our big hats!

I'm planning on getting up at four a.m. to watch the Royal Wedding.. but we'll see if that actually happens! I think I'm most excited to see her wedding dress.

What do you guys think about The Fascinator? And does anyone have big plans for the Royal Wedding?

Have a great day, everyone! And hats off,  hats on to the princess!

Bring it on, Jazzercise!

Whew! This girl is tired. Hopefully I can stay awake to make it through this post :)

Yesterday was my LDOC (last day of class) and my friends and I celebrated at one of our favorite bars on Franklin St. - He's Not. I got a big blue cup of one of my favorite drinks, Woodchuck, and we stayed out wayyy past my bedtime dancing and talking and whatnot.

It was a little hard for me to get up this morning, but by the time 11:30 came I was up and ready for the drive back to my parent's house. Moving out is tough! It took me at least eight trips just to load all of the clothes in my car. Yikes!

I came home to find that everything had blossomed since I'd last been home. Our backyard looks like a jungle! After dinner, I ran some errands with my mom and picked up this shirt at Marshall's. I'm not a big "bargain shopper"... somehow I can never find anything I want at places like this, but I really loved the color of this shirt. It's loose and made out of light cotton, and I think it will be perfect for a summer evening. And for only $16, I pretty much had to get it right?

The sleeves are lined with pretty lace. And yes, it is hanging on my lamp, sorry about the ugly background!

I have a busy day planned for tomorrow. In the morning, I'm attending a Jazzercise class with my mom..

I've been to the class before, and even though I'm always the youngest one there (by far!), the hour-long class is definitely a great workout. I've been trying to do more weight lifting recently to tone my arms, and the instructors always incorporate weights or resistance bands into the routines, so it's a good mix of cardio and weight training. And we always dance to fun, modern songs (including Glee and Britney Spears).

I need some new weights, and aren't these adorable? I'm a sucker for anything pink and green. With these, I could definitely kick some Jazzercise's butt!

I'll also be grocery shopping tomorrow. At school, I never buy groceries - I eat every meal at my sorority and I don't have a real fridge to keep food in. During the school year I don't have access to a lot of the healthy foods I want, like fresh fruit, so now that I'm home, I'm eager to go to the grocery store and load up on some good eats. Here's the start of my list:

I think this is a good start! All I have to say is, be prepared for some good food posts this week :) I'm home for a week before I head back to school to finish up exams and I want to bake some sort of treat while I'm here. What should I make? Cupcakes, cookies?

My eyelids are closing on me, so I think that's a sign I need to get some sleep. That Jazzercise class is going to come sooner than I think!

Goodnight all!

Got to have these!

This is just a quick post - I was surfing the internet in my last class and came across these JELLY JACK ROGERS and had to share! I have a pair of jelly sandals from J Crew, and I love them, but these Jack Rogers are to die for! Hmmm, maybe my mom will buy me some for finishing up the school year. Whaddya think?

I'm loving the pink and the white pairs! But really - they're all cute. And the great thing about them is that they're cheaper than normal Jack Rogers, for $68 a pair.

Do you remember when jelly shoes used to be big? I was about five years old, then, and had a pair of these:

Yikes! It's funny how things come back in style. :)

Is there anything from the 80s or 90s you want to come back in style? My hair is really curly when I let it go natural, and sometimes I think I was born in the wrong decade.. I would have fit right in with the "big hair" trend of the 80s.

Have a great day, everyone!

Stuck in the Library

Hey all!

Whew! Today has been busy. I had a paper due this morning, lunched at KD, then headed to the J-school (what we call our journalism building) to produce a show for Carolina Week. Then I was inducted into the Journalism School's National Honor Society. I did some more work before eating another tasty meal at my sorority house.

Tonight, I'm writing from a very isolated and lonely spot... my cubicle in the library! I'm surrounded by nothin' but books. Don't get me wrong, I love to read, but I don't think anyone would wanna read the books I'm surrounded by (The Mississippi Quarterly, or American Edition of the British Encyclopedia? I don't think so). Anyways, I have my first exam tomorrow, so since I'll be doing this all night...

I decided to treat myself to a little something. Some new notecards and a pack of twenty fine-tipped Stabilo markers!

My friends think I'm the biggest dork, but I just LOVE school supplies! Nothing is better than going school supply shoppin' at the beginning of the year. Pens, planners, markers, stickers, new binders.. you name it, I gotta have it. I am definitely a dork, but hey, I'm proud of it 8)

So tonight it's just me and my Lilly pen, my new supplies, and a strawberry-flavored Fruit-2-O to help me study. And can't forget about these little bad boys:

The only problem is that I keep thinking about summer! I'm looking forward to fresh fruit (and that means smoothies!), the beach, sleeping in late, reading lots of novels, not having any responsibilities, and getting a SUNTAN! Last summer was so much fun..

I can't wait for this one! What are you looking forward to this summer?

Have a great night everyone!

Love, Caitlin

Hello world!

Hello blog-world!

My first post... how exciting! I've been following blogs for a while now, and just decided to try my hand at it. Wish me luck, I'm still getting the hang of things. I guess I should introduce myself, huh?

My name is Caitlin and I'm a college student at UNC Chapel Hill. I'm a daughter, a sister, a journalist, a writer, a fitness and health enthusiast, a southern gal, and, last but not least, a tarheel born and bred.

Some obsessions of mine:

-Family is the most important thing to me. I have the best family in the world! My mom is my best friend - isn't she beautiful?! We talk on the phone every day when I'm away at school.

-I love being a college student and think that UNC is the best school evaa. We study hard and bust our butts for a great education, but we also know how to have fun ;)

The Old Well at Chapel Hill

-I have a slight obsession with frozen yogurt. My friends and I go at least twice a week.. Our favorite is TCBY and it's only about a five minute drive down the road. Give me a big cup of half-cookies and cream, half-cookie dough and I'll be happy for days.
-I love to shop... Which is sort of a problem since I'm a broke college student. A few of my favorites are Lilly Pulitzer, JCrew, and any boutique-y shops.
-I'm in Kappa Delta at Carolina and I love it! My friends are the absolute best and make my life so much brighter.

-I'm addicted to eating healthy and working out. I definitely will be posting some good eats on here!
-The BEACH is my favorite place! I'm actually writing this while looking out over the ocean. My family vacations on the coast of NC and we came up here for Easter weekend since my brother is on Spring Break.
-I'm pretty artsy and love photography and painting.
-My planner contains my life. I love having things organized and I feel a little better about myself when all of my activities and assignments are written down in pink and teal.

My mom got me up at 8 a.m. this morning so that my brother and I could come find the chocolate eggs she had hidden throughout the beach condo. The Easter Bunny also brought me a chocolate bunny, Reese's Eggs (Peanut butter is a weakness of mine), and Jelly Belly's. Looks like I'll be stocked up on candy for a while! We went to the Easter sunrise service on the beach today and the weather is looking perfect. Welp, I'm going to go throw on my bikini and soak up some sun before I have to head back to school this afternoon.

Happy Easter! :)

Love, Caitlin
